Every year, the who estimates that sepsis causes 11 million deaths worldwide. Although its management is improving, patients are still at high risk of death due to secondary complications. Being able to stratify patients at risk is key to improve patients outcomes. Today, there is no test in the standard care pathway to assess the immune status to identify patients at risk of deterioration to allow delivery of personalized care and treatment. To answer this need, we have been working on a host response transcriptomic panel I P P targeting the different immune pathways and implemented on the widely available automated platform FilmArray. Within 45 minutes, directly from the whole blood sample, I P P will give I C U physicians easily interpretable information about the patient’s immune status and identify those at high risk of deterioration. I P P performances will be evaluated in the IMPACT study, co-financed by E I T health and bioMérieux in collaboration with the clinical sponsor of the study Anthony Gordon from Imperial College London, and sites at University College London, Karolinska Institute in Sweden and A P H P and H C L in France. 300 patients will be recruited in the I C U, up to date we have reached this target and we will continue inclusions until the end of November. We will evaluate the ability of I P P to identify a group of patients at high risk of deterioration measured by outcomes such as death, hospital acquired infections and length of hospital stay. In parallel, a preliminary health economics analysis will be performed.
