The PD and T Customized Work Permit Training Program was developed as an additional training as part of PD and T safety improvement program. This is to complement the corporate work permit training programs with the objective to transfer knowledge into behavior. This competency-based training, is designed for 5 days with high focus on hands-on learning experiences representing 85% of the entire content, utilizing several training methods and tools such as Physical simulators, Virtual Reality, and Hazards Recognition Site. The development has considered the corporate work permit training programs as foundation, while taking into consideration PD&T work permit challenges, common hazards, and Incident lessons learned. As part of the hands-on learning experience, Customized Hazards Recognition Site was established with a total of 8 zones, including more than 150 common hazards. In this site, the trainee will practice Hazards Identification Techniques and Control, in addition to the extensive practice of Saudi Aramco Work Permits for customized scenarios related to actual field activities. To support transferring the knowledge into behavior, there are a total of 16 safety simulators including Confined Space, Mechanical and Electrical Isolation Lock out tag out, personal fall arrest, falling from Height, Pressurized Cylinder and hose rupture, Personal Protective Equipment, and Electrical safety. In these simulators, several customized scenarios and case studies, were developed including but not limited to Tank T and I, Equipment replacement, and Pipeline Repair, as well as simple to complex Mechanical and Electrical Isolation. In the Virtual Reality Room, the trainee will practice Hazards identification and controls for different scenarios. In the multimedia room, the trainee will exercise hazards recognition and control, for different Work Permit scenarios, and participate in interactive workshops related to Incident Lessons Learned. To ensure learning effectiveness, the trainee will undergo series of technical and practical assessments and upon the completion, the trainee will have higher competency in terms of safety compliance, and increased vigilant behavior towards safety. It is worth mentioning that, the model of this competency-based training is first of its kind, as it is exceeding the international training best practices ratio of 80% practical versus 20% Theoretical. This supports the theme of transferring the knowledge into behavior.
