Hi, my name is Humsa Tammera, and I am a sophomore! At age four, I engaged in a trial for the first time. I was the plaintiff, and my older sister was the unwilling defendant. My mom sat at the kitchen table, armed with an imaginary gavel. And the chocolate chip cookie we were at trial over was laying unbothered on the plate in the middle of the table. I accused my sister of taking a bite of my cookie, saved deliberately for that evening, and I was rewarded with every last bite of it. That was the first court case I won. And given the opportunity to join RM's Mock Trial team, it won't be the last. I am an eloquent public speaker, and I am armed with experience talking in front of others. I was the SGA president at Hallie Wells Middle School and the captain of my FLL robotics team (which was an all-male team excluding me). This taught me how to argue with others and stand my ground when my peers have differing opinions, something I believe is essential to know how to do as a lawyer. It also taught me to remain confident and calm in heated moments, which is incredibly important when on the stand. I am also good at thinking of things on the spot and answering tough questions without being given much time to think, something I have learned from my strict parents, *smile here*, and also from my experience teaching young (and often challengingly curious) taekwondo students as a 2nd degree black belt. These skills will benefit me when I am either being cross-examined or having to call out objections. Just to add, I’ve been a part of musical theater programs since I was in 4th grade, so for 6 years now! Due to this I have no issue with playing roles and being “extra” or loud. I am also good at reading and writing, something I have learned over the years at school and also just through my hobbies. I enjoy historical fiction, documentaries, and nonfiction, something I believe will be useful when reading affidavits. I find law extremely interesting and if I am enabled to do so, I will be a valuable asset to the team! Thank you so much for your time!
