Chapter 6 Bruwaa’s Bits The Top 5 Things That Contributed to Bruwaa's Success in Her Small Business Over the past couple of years Bruwaa, the owner of an organic baby clothes company, has seen plenty of ups and downs in her small business, from financial challenges to technical problems. But with hard work and dedication, she’s not only managed to push through these challenges but also expand her business and grow into one of the leading organic baby clothes outlets on the market. Let’s take a closer look at some of the top factors that contributed to her success in her small business. 1. Get more than one opinion - seek advice Bruwaa found that it was really important for her to stay informed of the latest information and trends. She would often seek advice from experts who were successful in similar areas, as well as other small business owners. She also made sure she sought advice from people who had different perspectives on the same industry because they might have insights that she didn't already know about. When she was looking for advice, Bruwaa would ask questions such as: What are some of the challenges you faced? How did you overcome them? What do you wish someone had told you before starting your business? Bruwaa found these conversations helpful because they gave her more awareness about how others approach their work and what they've learned along the way. 2. Define your ideal customer - carve a niche Bruwaa carved a niche for her business, she didn't try to serve everyone. To be successful as an entrepreneur, you need to know what sets your business apart from the others. What makes you different? What skills do you have that competitors don't? Knowing your niche can keep you focused on what really matters and help you avoid wasting time and money on areas of your business that are not profitable. Bruwaa knew there was a demand for her product, so she focused on providing that unique product. She understood her customer base and marketed to them specifically. She made sure they were able to easily find her company online by creating a website, maintaining active social media accounts, writing blog posts, and so much more! 3. Trust your gut and grits and use your gifts Bruwaa had a thing for sales and trusted her guts. She grew up in the Bantama where her family ran a successful business selling shoes. When she moved to Accra she knew that she wanted to start her own company but didn't know what it should be. She was tired of working for other people and one day, she had an aha moment and decided that this would be the right fit for her. She trusted her gut and grits and used her gifts of salesmanship to work hard at building her side hustle and marketing herself through social media. 4. Hire an expert (if you can afford it) Bruwaa hired experts to help in areas she needed them most. For example, she hired a lawyer to help with the legalities of running a business, an accountant to help with her taxes and finances, and an IT person to make sure her website was up-to-date. All of these experts were able to offer valuable input that helped her run her business more efficiently. 5. Take action, do it anyway Bruwaa eventually gave it a nudge, she took action! She knew that she needed to take action and make her business grow, so she got online. There might not be an ideal time, but if you need to act, do it right and do it now! She researched what other people were doing for their small businesses and came up with a plan that would work for hers. She created a branded her business well, advertised it on social media, and made sure to have great customer service. "You need to use your gifts and grit to get to your goal and gold in life." — Bruwaa The END!
