Chapter 1 Don't go Please Stay with Me! What do you think is the most surprising thing that has happened to you since your phone beeped a notification? For me, it was seeing an old friend reconnecting with me on Facebook. It seemed like just a few weeks ago we were in college together, and now she's married and having kids! Life moves fast, doesn't it? So it happened that my phone notification beeped one Friday morning while I was walking by the roads in Aburi... I quickly peered through the screen to see what the message was... an old friend reconnecting with me on Facebook. I paused for a moment while scrolling through the timeline and realized how much has changed for her since we graduated from high school. Bruwaa, a toast of many high school boys with many secret admirers, was one fine girl. Pear-shaped with a taller stature than the average girl. That made her peers jealous of her. She was one fine girl. Having the beauty of an African woman. Not only that she was an intelligent and hard-working student. I remember my desk mate Eugene, Eugene wanted to date Bruwaa in high school, but he got bounced and turned to Dawn broadcasting with Scripture Union. He now pastors a thriving Charismatic church. Bruwaa and I no longer live in the same city, nor do we have any other friends in common. But despite our differences, it was nice to see that some things never change... she still remembered who I am! That shy, quiet reserved boy I was. well, they said I was a smart kid. Nice compliment. So we started chatting, and she discovered that I'm currently involved in branding, training, and writing. After a few days, she messaged me about her decision to leave her banking job and launch a full-time baby clothing business, and she asked for my advice and brand guidelines. Her message read... "Hey BKC! Thank you so much for chatting with me on social media. After a week of talking, I decided to quit my banking job and pursue full-time baby clothing venture. I was wondering if you could give me some advice and guidelines on how to do this effectively. Would love to hear your thoughts!" Bruwaa had been with the Shuci Bank for over 12 years, rising through the ranks. She's determined and a go-getter, and she's helped increase their revenue to more than 200% profit since her previous role as Head of Finance. She mentioned that something was missing in her life in the midst of all of this. Hey! Success means different things to different people, but Bruwaa was successful in her corporate career, to say the least. Although she had written her resignation letter for some time, she never got the courage to submit it. Well as fate would have it... Time passed, minutes became hours and hours became days... Would she stay or would she go? Would she stay or would she go? Don't go Please Stay with Me! Chapter 2 Bruwaa Brooding — Bruwaa, a dynamic woman with a family of three kids, has been overwhelmed with house chores, coupled with office duties in the past two months. She's been feeling hopeless and unproductive and is considering firing herself from work. Bruwaa's boss is sympathetic to her workload and agrees to give her an easier schedule. However, Bruwaa feels like she can't get the same amount of work done under the new schedule and goes back to thinking about firing herself from work. Everything seemed to be under control when she had her first child. When compared to the joys of nursing a new baby, the workload was not much to complain about. She would occasionally have family and friends come over to support her, especially on weekends. Growing up in the 1980s, we had aunties, cousins, and uncles living with us, and the family setting was very different. A large compound house with a single room with a porch for each household. The open compound was our playground, as well as everyone's kitchen. It was a lot of fun; each family helped the other, and the kids played together under the watchful eyes of our aunts and uncles. We were all treated as brothers and sisters, even though we did not share the same biological parents. Support was readily available, and families grew closer in love, strengthening their bonds with nature's support system. Oh! How I missed those years. Well, well, well. The way people live their lives has shifted dramatically. People are increasingly moving into larger houses with their nuclear families, and the extended family is becoming increasingly distant. We've also become more interconnected thanks to technology like smartphones and Wi-Fi hotspots, spending more time virtually with strangers than with close family members. A sad reality of the modern era. Currently getting help to support the home is difficult to find, couples must work around their work schedules to balance that off taking care of the kids. Bruwaa can barely juggle her work, career, ministry, and family life now that she has three children. The stress is causing her to lose focus; she needs support and financial assistance. Despite her husband's support and the fact that his work provides for a large portion of the family's needs. As a well-groomed woman and a forward-thinking individual, she does not want her husband to shoulder so much responsibility. As a result, she is considering quitting her job so she can spend more time with the family and pursue her side hustle full-time. In addition to providing her with flexibility, control, and income, she will be able to live her life the way she wants. This could be about the hundredth time musing, but would she make a move this time? Want more? Coming this November! Bruwaa.
