After dressing up, Mary goes out and notices the worried faces of the staff and the crying friends of the boys who went missing. A team of four boys was made and they were told to find the boys, whereas all of the other students were instructed to carry on their hiking for that day. Mary clings to Jackson and walks with him, while Ethan stole glances at them from time to time. They went up and up, admiring the scenery around them. They eat, dance, enjoy themselves to their fullest, and finally return to their camps. When they return, the horror almost ate them up. The team lost contact with them. Their last update was that they were heading towards the East, and now they couldn't be traced. The students and staff sit together, extremely worried about the situation. Two of the senior professors decided to leave and search for them where they were last spotted. They got up and prepared themselves for the hike. They carried ample torches because it was way too dark. When they were about to leave, the group heard a familiar voice coming from the trees around. Suddenly, a boy popped out of the shrubs and fell on his back. It was one of the students that were sent on the team, and now he was lying fainted. Mary clung to Jackson, afraid of the situation. The boys turned the boy around and all of the girls started screaming. His face was covered in blood and one of his hands was missing and blood was constantly dripping from the exposed flesh and broken veins. He was immediately sent to the medical camp and all of the other students went to sleep. It was announced that they would leave as soon as the sun would rise. Mary went into her camp, but she couldn't sleep. The boy's face kept on circulating in her head and made her frightened. She got up and peeked from the camp. Suddenly, her body calmed down as soon as she saw Jackson standing near the burned ashes of the bonfire. She went to him and stood beside him. "Are you afraid?" Mary asks him. She could already see the terror on his face. "Don't be afraid, I am here." But that doesn't give even a little much hope to Jackson. "What do you think it is?" Mary asks him again, after being ignored for the first time. "I don't know," he replies. "Maybe it's something like tribal people here. That's why the tourists never come here." "Maybe," Jackson replies to her. They stand there for a while when they hear a weird noise from around. Jackson and Mary look around keenly to find the source of that sound, but they couldn't find anything in the dark. Jackson was sure it was coming from the jungle side, so he insisted Mary to go inside, as he was afraid herself. Mary took it as an opportunity to show off her bravery, which she never knew she had. She assured Jackson that someone was teasing them and that she will see who it is. She walks towards the jungle, as slowly as possible. For every step she took, she could hear the voice clearer and louder. When she was close enough to the shrub, she could hear the voice. It was an animal, grunting heavily. Her feet began to tremble and she thought to run back, but it was too late. As she steps backward, suddenly the eyes shine brightly from the shrubs and a huge animal jumps out of it in front of Mary which makes her fall aback. Her body shivered and she screamed as the Black Panther hovered over her. Mary looked around to see Jackson standing around and screamed his name to help her, but he runs off as soon as he sees the panther. The panther grunts again and Mary closes her eyes, ready to be shredded in pieces. Suddenly, the panther's attention is diverted to a stone thrown at him. Mary opens her eyes to see Ethan standing beside them and constantly hitting the panther with stones. She instantly picks herself up and drags her body forward to move from under the animal. But the panther realizes it and holds her leg in his mouth. The sharp teeth tear not just her skin, but her flesh as well. On her screaming, all of the students get out of their camp and see the panther holding her leg in its mouth. Mary was trembling in pain. The panther would jerk for once and her leg would detach from her body. At this point, Mary wanted to die as the pain was unbearable. From the corner of her eyes, she could see the students going back inside, even Jackson who never comes near to her. The teachers come out and try to run him off, but they knew if he would go away, he would take Mary along with him. She was still alive. Mary was fainting from the pain now. The panther hovered even more onto her and opened his mouth to show his sharp, piercing teeth. Suddenly, Mary felt relieved as the panther left her leg and the teeth weren't piercing her flesh anymore. She wondered what made him leave it. In a blink, the panther cries as if it's in pain. Suddenly, blood dripped down from his body and Mary notices the ax, that they used earlier to cut the wood, was inside his body. As he whimpered in pain and trembled around, Ethan came in sight. He attacked the panther. He comes in running, kicking the panther with all his might, and picks Mary up. Mary fainted as soon as he picked her up. So, Ethan hurriedly took her to the medical camp. Her leg was too injured, and blood was constantly seeping out of the holes, where the teeth were embedded. Luckily, Ethan took the paramedic training during his internship and did as much as he could from the available equipment. He disinfected the wound and cleaned it properly, and later wrapped the bandage around it. He still didn't know if she needed surgery, in case her veins were damaged as well. Ethan gets out of the camp and watches the dead panther lying on the side. The girls were still inside, whereas the boys were throwing his body down the hill, or it would start to smell bad. Ethan's teacher appreciated him for his brave attack and for helping Mary when all of them stood back and watched. One more second and the panther would have eaten her alive. Ethan stays with Mary the whole night and when the sun finally rises, the loading starts. He was sure that Mary needed a doctor because she didn't wake up the whole night. They arrange an ambulance for her and place her in that. Ethan sits beside her on their way back and as soon as they reached, Mary was taken to the operation theatre. The doctors told him that she needed proper disinfection treatment and some stitches too for her torn skin. Ethan doesn't go to visit her as he thought she wouldn't like his presence around her. A week later, while Ethan was sitting on the ground, Mary comes and grabs his hand and takes him to the football court where Jackson is playing. "You are a coward, Jackson! You left me alone to die. If he wasn't the one, I could've died." Jackson shrugs but steals glances as he was too embarrassed. Ethan walks out of the court, but Mary holds his hand and apologizes to him for acting rude. "A friend in need is a friend indeed." Mary smiles at him while holding his hand and walks outside. The whole college stares at her.
