And before I start today's topic, I would like to inform you that this training hours can be clock and recorded into your own Marriott Training hours. For today’s topic, we will get into “Backup Exec Setup and Configuration” Backup Exec delivers powerful, flexible, and easy‐to‐use backup and recovery to protect your entire infrastructure, whether built upon virtual, physical, or both. Backup Exec backs up local or remote data to virtually any storage device including tape, disk, and cloud. Recovery is fast and efficient. You can quickly search and restore granular file or application objects, applications, VMs, and servers directly from backup storage Page 2 The agenda for today is 1st Installing Backup Exec Followed by Initial Configuration Installing Backup Exec Agents Then Opera Server Accounts and Agents configurations And Finally we will go through some Example of Opera Full/Differential Server Daily File Backup Page 3 Before we begin, kindly follow the link here and download the backup exec guide. The guide is really useful as it provide more information on creating backup jobs not only ofr opera server but also for Simphony server, FP server,door lock server etc. Page 4 Before we begin with the backup exec, you would require to have ensure that you have requested the BackupExec Service Account (svc‐xxxxx‐backexec) in AD. This SVC account MUST be nested into Local Administrators on all application servers that need Backup Exec Note: You have to request the Service Account through Request Center. Once the account is created you will receive an email to activate the account Page 5 To install Backup Exec ensure you have all the license keys or have registered the licenses though the proper channel (internet or Symantec sales agent) and have received the activations keys. We install only the Full Backup Exec version on the F&P server, NOT the BackupExec Agents (BE Agents). The BE Agents will be installed from the Backup Exec Server (F&P server) to other application servers. To install the Backup Exec full application, complete the steps below Page 6 You will be ask to accept the license agreement and click on next. Select Typical Installation when ask to choose Page 7 After selecting the type of installation, you will proceed to the environment check. Please let the check proceed before clicking on next Page 8 Ensure the license information is input correctly Key in you backup exec Entitlement ID: ****** Your Entitlement ID you should have received via email after purchasing the license. Page 9 You be prompted for a user account. This is where you would use your newly created SVC backup exec account Select the director where you want to have the backup execx install. Please ensure it is installed in you FP server D:\ drive Ensure also that you click on yes, when prompted to have your backup exec svc account with administrator rights Page 10 During the installation, you will also be prompt to add any remote server, computer and/or workstation. Please do not add any of those yet. Leave the portion blank. We will add the necessary server after the program is running Page 11 Once all the information is completed, the installation can finally proceed. Please click on the Install button once all the information is input correctly. Backup Exec will proceed with Microsoft SQL express installation, and please wait for the installation to complete Page 12 You will eventually see this page once the installation is completed. You may proceed to click Finish. The page showing the survey will appear, you may Un-Check “[√] Skip the survey and finish the installation” Click “Finish.” Page 13 Once the installation is done, you may launch the “Veritas Backup Exec” to begin the configuration You will have to sign with your SVC account. Once sign in, proceed to set the Alert and Notification. You may set the alerts to send emails to your personally mailbox in case there is any backup job error. Further information on configurating this can be found on the guide. Page 14 Next we will take a look on the steps to configure the storage. One the main page of the backup exec, click on Storage on the tool bar on top and then select configure storage. Choose Disk-based Storage. You will be ask for the name of the storage, by standard, it should be your property marsha_Disk storage 0001. Page 15 Under the Concurrent write operations, you are to Set the value below according to the number of processor cores. In here, please set to “16.” Ensure that all the information is correct on the storage configuration summary and click on finish Page 16 Now we will go through on configuring the Database Encryption Key Go back to “Backup Exec main Console” > Click on the “Home.” Scroll down and look for “Database Encryption key,” Click on “Export Database Encryption key.” Under the “Path:” key in your file server [\\<MARSHA>VMFP1\IT\BEENCRYPTIONKEY] Note: Please make sure you have the folder created in Target Server and access right. Ensure Check on “[√] Remember the export path. By Clicking this check box, you consent to let backup Exec retain and displaying the export path during import operations.” Click on “Export.” Once completed, a successful message will appear and click “ok” to close Page 17 Before we can proceed with the backup, Backup Exec agents must be deployed to all servers. We will go through on how to deploy the backup exec agents to server we wish to run backup jobs from This process will deploy the Backup Exec agent and Auto-reboot the destination server upon completion. Agents only need to deploy for all Servers. Step 1, we are require to add the server to our backup exec. Click on Backup and Restore, the click on the icon Add Next select the type of server you wish to add. In this case it would be Microsoft windows computers and servers You will need to also check the option “Allow Backup Exec to establish a trust with the servers” Page 18 Next you will need to type in the server name and select the logon account. For the logon account please select “new logon account” Username would be the SVC backup exec you have created follow by the password. Ensure that you ticket “This is restricted logon account” Now the server you wish to add would show the logon account is using your svc account. Page 19 Ensure that you check both of the option here. Upgrade the backup exec agent for windows to the current version automatically As well as Restart the remote computer automatically after installing the backup exec agent for windows when a restart is required. Please note if you are doing the backup for any production server(Opera, Simphony) please make sure the operation team are made aware before hand. Review the summary and click on install. This will cause the backup exec agent to be install onto the server you are adding. It will also prompt you the status of the installation and once its completed, the server will be added in your backup exec application Page 20 Once the backup exec agent has been install, we need to remote to the server of where it was install and we would require to configure it. For this example, we will remote to the Opera server after the backup exec agent was successfully installed on the server. On the server, launch the backup exec agent utility. You may find in under windows start button programs Veritas Backup Exec Launch the application and click on change settings. This is to allow you to configure the backup exec agent utility Once you have change setting, go to the Oracle tab and configure the oracle agent Under the local instances name, select “Opera” You will now enter your opera sys account password Ensure the Backup exec job setting should be pointing back to where the backup exec application was installed. In this case, it should you FP server. Opera instance will appeared after successfully configure. Page 21 Continuing, go to the database Access, ensure that the option “Enable the backup exec server to authenticate oracle operation” Enter the username, which is the svc account you have created earlier and also the password. Next, under the publishing tab, make sure the option “Enable Agent for windows to publish information to the Backup Exec Server in the list.” Is checked Page 22 Now Lets take a look on few jobs to familiarize ourselves. lets take a in depth look at the Simphony backup job. We will Start creating a Backup Schedule for Simphony CAPS Servers We will need to add the Simphony CAPS server to the backup exec application Then we will locate the server that we have just added, right click on the caps server, select “Back Up to Disk and then Duplicate to tape.” Job 1 with key name #8 follow by your marsha, hostname of your caps server and follow by Backup 00008 also, you can enter the description for this job as shown on the screen “Physical Simphony CAPS” Under the server, click on “edit” Please select all folder and Exclude “Microsoft SQL Server Instant.” Page 23 After selecting the SQL file we wish to backup on the previous page, we now need to configure the schedule of the backup and also the storage backup. On the backup column, click on edit and we be able to configure the schedule time and frequency of the backup and also which storage we would like to select.
