Good day Landbankers! This is the first part of our videographics on Deaf Awareness. In 2018, the Republic Act 11106 declared the Filipino Sign Language as the Philippines’ National Sign Language and the Official Sign Language in the Government. FSL is the natural language of communication used by majority of the Filipino Deaf population. A Sign Language is a system of manual, facial and other body movements as the means of communication, especially among Deaf people. It is not based on any written language, like Filipino or English. There are numerous Sign Languages being used in the world. According to a study, 15% of the Philippine population has a moderate or worse hearing loss. The actual number of Deaf Filipinos has yet to be confirmed. Get to know more about the Deaf community tomorrow. Have a great day! Good day Landbankers! Here are some of the words that are not acceptable when dealing or pertaining with the Deaf: Deaf-and-Dumb Deaf-Mute or Pipi Hearing Impaired Handicapped Instead, we can refer to them as: Hard of Hearing Deaf or Bingi, the big letter D distinguishes them as a group of people with own unique language and culture Contrary to what most people think, the Deaf cannot lip-read.
