Unfortunately this is not a great replacement for the previous pyramid composted. That unit, which had its faults (including more difficult assembly and lower door that might pop open when full of compost), overall worked much better. I'd gladly buy another one of those. While the larger size and more sturdy construction once assembled were nice, the major issue with this new one is the sliding lid. The primary problem is that the thing freezes shut. A hammer is now essential for every winter trip to the bin. Also, the sliding lid complicates placement. If you want to place it against a building, wall, or fence, you have to place it so the lid slides parallel to the fence. Otherwise, you have to pull the lid open towards you, then reach over it or stand alongside of it to dump your bucket. Now that wouldn't so bad if it's there's room on either side. However, that means you can't place three close together because the lid of middle one will hit the ones on either side. Corner placement is also limiting. Finally, although I was careful to place it squarely, once it started filling it went out of square. Not so much the lid binds (yet), but the lifting lid on the previous design was just all around better. On the plus side, it was easy to assemble, and although I have plenty of varmints around, none of gotten into it like they have with some other reviewers. I suspect it's also cheaper to ship, as the box was much smaller and lighter than the previous one. But that's not enough to balance out the negatives, so I would not buy another.
