Good morning to all, welcome to the 6th middle east college symposium 2022, this video presents about B.Sc. (Hons) Quantity Surveying & Construction Management programme of department of civil engineering This programme is offered in partnership with Coventry University and the programme is accredited by international professional body Chartered Institute of building (CIOB) for a period of 5 years from 2022 to 2027. Quantity Surveying and Construction Management programme is a challenging, demanding and rewarding profession, which will enable student to contribute to the present and future well-being of a modern and developing Oman. This programme equips students with the core knowledge, skills and special abilities/ expertise in the areas of Quantity Surveying, Costing & Estimation, Innovation, Contract Management, Tendering, Property Survey, Construction Finance and Commercial Management relating to the construction industry. The total number of students registered for this academic year is 89 in which 62 are full time and 27 are part time students. The first cohort was graduated in summer 2016. The programme consists of 32 Modules from which 26 are offered by the Civil Engineering Department and 3 Modules offered by the department of Mathematics and applied science, 2 Modules offered by Centre for Foundation studies and 1 Module by the Department of management studies. Hyflex is a hybrid teaching method, constitute a combination of on-campus, online, synchronous, and asynchronous modes of teaching, in an appropriate Hybrid Flexible (HyFlex) mode. As part of learning in this environment, students are expected to take a lead in their own learning and also actively engage with course materials and with their instructors as well as with their peers. Preclass and post class activities are delivered with the help of H5P interactive content, which allows the faculty to monitor students’ engagement. MOOC courses are offered, and Domaine workshops were delivered every semester as per cocurricular activity calendar. In teaching and learning Formative Online E-Tool used to provide formative feedback to students and track student progress. It also promotes students’ self-evaluation capabilities 100% of faculty in programme are active in research. All faculty members got patents through intellectual property India, 4 Scopus indexed Conference Proceedings are published. Out of which 2 publications by students. two publications in springer - lecture notes in civil engineering and 5 Scopus Indexed Journals published. one Book Chapter was submitted to - COVID-19 Pandemic T & L Practices at Middle East College. 1 URG Proposal submitted in Spring 2022, faculty are extending their services as reviewer for Scopus indexed journals, 4 Abstracts accepted of student’s bachelor projects accepted for International Conferences internship was provided for 27% of eligible students during fall semester and 70% in spring semester. Internship drive was conducted in the campus to increase student employability. Some of the key points to be noted, the staff blog published in Centre for Academic Practices on "Effective Learning Design using H5P" in Teaching and learning Pedagogies a& Methods, Technology. Established Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Tomorrow’s Leaders community of Middle East College to conduct various activities for students of Civil Engineering Department. This provides opportunities to students to increase the professional network and also to obtain knowledge on current advancement of construction industry. Faculty achieved WIPO certification for the successful completion of general course on Intellectual Property. During this academic year 17 guest lectures were conducted related to contracts, tenders, procurement, construction finance and take off quantities. 3 site visits were conducted to provide the exposure and personal experience on construction site. 10 workshops by staff and 12 workshops by Alumni were conducted to increase the understanding of module content. There are totally 37 projects offered for diploma and bachelor students in which 57% are live projects during Fall and 25% during spring. As a part of community Engagement 7 Knowledge sharing sessions and webinar were conducted for high school students. Future plan is to increase the number of student publications, faculty to achieve professional body membership, in collaboration with professional body CIOB a national level training programme is being planned.
