Anxious self? Sad self? A combination?</emphasis>”<break strength="x-strong"/> If we can take this moment of pause and reflection, we could notice this and then practice our grounding and soothing breathing, mentalize and visualize ourselves at our very compassionate best, switch over to our <emphasis level="strong">compassionate self</emphasis>, and wonder:<break strength="x-strong"/> “What is making this situation so tense? How did we get here? What did I do to contribute to this situation happening? How can I be gentle with myself right now?”<break strength="x-strong"/> “What is the experience of the other person?
