<speak> Coping with Burnout in Healthcare Using Compassionate Mind Training<break strength="x-strong"/> Session 5<break strength="x-strong"/> <emphasis level="strong">Multiple Selves and our compassionate self-identity</emphasis><break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> These outlines some of the reasons that workplace friction happens in healthcare settings. This has to do with the high stress realities that trigger our tricky brain’s threat system, which in turn supports threat-based selves such as our anxious and angry self.<break strength="x-strong"/> Here we recognize that there are multiple parts within us, some are rooted in threat, and lead to friction, and other parts, like our compassionate-self identity are supported by our soothing system and enable a focus on care-taking, collaboration and alliance building. We will learn about the strategy of “notice and switch”: We practice noticing our threat activity and threat-based parts.<break strength="x-strong"/> We first make sure to calm down the body and take care of our angry, anxious or sad self if they become too dominant. Once we have noticed and cared for these parts we can switch over to our compassionate-self identity.<break strength="x-strong"/> We practice activating our compassionate self by grounding in the body, slowing down and stimulating our soothing system. Doing so supports us in feeling safer and in embodying and expressing our core attributes of strength, stability, wisdom and a strong commitment for care-taking and collaboration.<break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> </speak>
