<speak> <emphasis level="strong">Being with our emotions Mindfulness, Attention, Curiosity and Non-Judgment- Part one</emphasis><break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> Mindfulness has to do with holding a position of curiosity towards whatever we notice. Relating to our emotions with mindfulness is extremely helpful. Wherever our attention goes, we observe the focus of our attention with curiosity through an emotional texture of care, instead of judgment and threat. In other words, we can allow our attention to focus on our own suffering with patience and warm responsiveness, instead of reactivity, and impatience.<break strength="x-strong"/> As we learned, our attention can easily be swayed towards the negatives, our brain’s “factory setting” is “better safe than sorry!” So, when something alarming happens, our threat system can quickly direct our attention there and form a judgmental conclusion about it. Judgment ultimately comes out of our threat and self-protection system.<break strength="x-strong"/> Our first step is to become aware of this natural dynamic and recognize that this is coming out of our desire to feel safe and reassure ourselves that this is a normal human experience. Our task is to notice this and try to switch over to observing the challenge with understanding, patience and curiosity. We will practice the skills of “notice and switch” throughout the program.<break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> </speak>
