<speak> <emphasis level="strong">Our emotional life</emphasis><break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> There are three primary emotional systems we work with in Compassionate Mind Training – Threat, Drive and Soothing.<break strength="x-strong"/> Our threat system can help protect us from harm, it is very important to us. However, we can get in trouble if it’s in “overdrive”, which is what often happens when we are under stress, then too much anxiety or other threat emotions take over. Our drive system can be helpful in helping us accomplish our tasks and achieve goals.<break strength="x-strong"/> However, when we are driven by our threat system, we run the risk of acting out of fear and engage with unskillful stress-based actions. Of course, our soothing system is our emotional anchor. It is the capacity we wish to activate in order to reduce our threat activity and feel grounded and safe in body and mind.<break strength="x-strong"/> One of our core tasks in life is to reduce our threat activity, and transition towards living in our soothing system much of the time.<break strength="x-strong"/> The training videos in this module will further highlight the operating principles of our tricky brain, our threat emotions, and the benefits of activating our soothing system.
