<speak> Coping with Burnout in Healthcare Using Compassionate Mind Training<break strength="x-strong"/> Session 3<break strength="x-strong"/> <emphasis level="strong">Our tricky brain loops - Cultivating compassion</emphasis><break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> The reality of our “tricky brain”, and the loops we can get caught up with. We describe our brain’s “factory setting” of apprehension, which is rooted in our “old brain”, an ancient part of our brain in charge of survival.<break strength="x-strong"/> We describe how our “new brain” which is capable of sophisticated thinking can easily be swayed by a hyper-survival focus, leading us to increased stress and anxiety.<break strength="x-strong"/> This is especially common in high stress settings such as healthcare work. We deepen into the benefits of compassion, which we define as a: “sensitivity to suffering in self and others with a commitment to try to alleviate and prevent this suffering.” We also recognize that we all have this tricky brain and wish to be safe, it’s something we all share.<break strength="x-strong"/> A core message is that when we struggle “it’s not our fault, but it is our responsibility” to respond with compassion. We outline a path towards non blaming and nonjudgement while taking responsibility to care for ourselves.<break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> </speak>
