<speak> <emphasis level="strong">Our Tricky Brain Loops</emphasis><break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> Essentially, when we are stressed, our ancient brain mechanisms take over and dominate our body and mind, reacting with a hyper focus on survival, and threat orientation, leading to increased attention to the negatives. This can create stress, depression, anxiety and burnout.<break strength="x-strong"/> See the visual above for more context on this. The way to respond to this productively is through mindfulness and compassion, we will spend our program doing just that.<break strength="x-strong"/> So how can we explain our struggle?<break strength="x-strong"/> What is making healthcare work so tricky at times?<break strength="x-strong"/> Why can’t we just enjoy the benefits, and never feel burnt out?<break strength="x-strong"/> It has a lot with the ways our brains are built, and how we choose to respond to our human experience.<break strength="x-strong"/> It’s important to highlight, we have agency here!<break strength="x-strong"/> Given our tricky brains, a key message to remember is:<break strength="x-strong"/> <emphasis level="strong">It’s not your fault, but it is your responsibility!</emphasis><break strength="x-strong"/> In other words, it’s not our fault we have a tricky brain, with a “better safe than sorry” mentality, it’s not our fault we are prone to feel threatened and anxious during stress, it’s simply our “factory setting”. It is however our responsibility to respond to our tricky brains, and to other people with mindfulness and compassion, in order to maintain stability and care in our lives.<break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> <break strength="x-strong"/> </speak>
