COLLECTIVE BARGAINING. We will continue to lobby for the “freedom of choice for employers who have associated together” in terms of their right to determine at which forum they wish to “regulate the relations between themselves and their employees”. Should bargaining councils wish to extend their agreements on employers who have not “associated together” it remains outside of our realm of influence. Our collective bargaining strategy therefore remains in terms of our criteria that unless we obtain a 100% mandate from our members in a specific sector that has a bargaining council ( without an extension of their collective agreements) we will not apply for bargaining council party membership but will promote alternative forums for collective bargaining by exploring appropriate criteria such as geographical location, proliferation of trade unions amongst the members, size of company ( number of employees & annual turnover),type of operations etc.
