Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. To Professor Le Quang Cuong - chairman of the council. To professors and teachers… Thank you very much for coming here today, and giving me a chance to present the Overview report of my achievements in teaching, and researching work… Let’s me introduce myself. My name is Nguyen Duc Minh. My speciality is Traditional medicine. I am working at National Hospital of Acupuncture… I am applying for the academic title of Associate Professor. My presentation has 4 parts about: my personal information; my achievements in teaching and researching work; the Orientation of my teaching and researching; and the conclusion. I was born in 1973 and Hung Yen province is my hometown. I’m the Deputy Director of the National Hospital of Acupuncture. I am also a lecturer at Vietnam University of Traditional Medicine. In 2002, I graduated from Vietnam Military Medical University, and gained MD degree. In 2006, I completed the Master program in acupuncture, and to 3 years’ latter, in 2006 completed the PhD program at the same university, the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, and gained PhD degree in traditional medicine. I have a quite long teaching history at the Vietnam University of Traditional Medicine. - I’ve been teaching theory subjects, and also clinical practice to undergraduate, and graduate students since 2011. I am proud of my achievements in researching, especially researches on the combination of traditional medicine, with modern medicine. My key research fields include: 1. Study on acupoints and meridian system. Acupuncture, pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods in the treatment of degenerative diseases, herniated diseases, spine, and some other musculoskeletal diseases. 2. Study on acupuncture, combining the treatment methods of traditional medicine and modern medicine in the treatment of functional neurological disorders: cerebral circulatory insufficiency, neurasthenia, insomnia, some other chronic diseases - associated with factors, and treatments. 3. Study on acupuncture, combining the treatment methods of pharmacological and non-pharmacological in rehabilitation of mental sequelae, and exercise in brain-injured patients such as after stroke. I took part in many researching projects, writing scientific articles and books. I was the manager of 8 researching projects, including 5 at institutional level, 01 at ministerial level, and especially 2 at state-level. I am the author of 59 scientific articles, for the scientific journals in country, and other 11 articles, for the international scientific journals. I also wrote 3 textbooks, and 01 manuals as training materials. I would like to share with you 5 outstanding research projects: Topic 1: Evaluation the effects of electro- acupuncture on Noi Quan, Thai Xung acupoints, in treatment sleep disorders. The research finding proves that, Electro- acupuncture combined with ear-acupuncture is a safe and effective method in improving patient’s sleep; it brings patients back into physiological sleep, after at least 10 times. I also wrote an article on the topic. Topic 2: The evaluation of painful relief effects of combining electro-acupuncture, and Vietnamese mug wort-belt method in treating neck, and shoulder pain due to cold. The research finding proves that, the treatment using electro-acupuncture and Vietnamese mug wort belts generates a good result, and causes no harmful side-effects on patients. I also wrote an article on the topic. Topic 3: The effects of treatment for aphasia on stroke patients, after acute stage of electro-acupuncture. The research finding proves that, Electro-acupuncture applied to acupoints and whole body has an effect on treating, and rehabilitating aphasia after stroke. I also wrote an article on this topic. Topic 4: Evaluation the effect of treatment, and motor function rehabilitation on stroke patients by electro-acupuncture, combined with Bobath method. The research finding proves that, electro-acupuncture combined with Bobath method has an effect on treating, and rehabilitating motor function in patients with hemiplegia, due to ischemic stroke after the acute phase. I also wrote an article on the topic. Topic 5: A study of the effect of electro-acupuncture on liver, spleen, and kidney function on experimental animals. The research finding proves that, Electro- acupuncture at Hop Coc, Noi Quan, Giap Tich acupoints has a protective, restrictive hurt, degeneration, congestion effect on liver, kidney tissues in infected rabbits. Stabilizing indications of the function of these organs (enzyme activity AST, ALT, urea, creatinine), and preventing congestion in spleen tissues help increase reproduction of lymphocyte in periphery blood. I also wrote an article on the topic. The Orientation of my teaching will be: - Improving teaching methods, compiling textbooks, and reference books, and continuing to provide guidance, and advice to undergraduate and graduate students, in doing their theses. - Providing training service on-demand of organizations/localities within the technical assistance, and technology transfer programs, to the traditional medicine hospitals at lower levels. - Promoting, and developing training programs for international students, on traditional medicine, especially the utilization of non-pharmacological methods. - Ensuring a good combination of teaching, researching and medical examination and treatment jobs. The Orientation of my researching will be: - Firstly with intractable disease, using traditional medicine in preventive treatment, supporting and minimizing intractable diseases, such as cancer. - Secondly, with acute stage disease, traditional medicine will be applied in rehabilitating sequelae after acute stage diseases, such as stroke, and encephalitis. My main objective is: To make more contribution to Vietnam’s medical education and training, as well as researching work. I would like to have the last words to express my sincere thanks to the professorship appraisal board.
