Insider threats can be a danger because they have legitimate access to internal systems, networks, and data to get their regular job done. This can make an attack hard to detect, as HIDS and NIDS could flag the operations as legitimate. The main way insiders can accomplish their goals, is by exploiting their potential simplicity to gain access to an elevated account with administrator rights, just by having credentials for such user, or by leveraging a flaw in the system that is known by them.
