I feel a soft tickle under my toes, as water gushes over my feet. I had planned to make no stops as the journey ahead was further than I had anticipated. I hear a soft muffled crackling sound behind the trees, not too far from the river stream, where I had been seated. I jump from the scare, my heart is now pounding out of my chest. A flood of assumptions clog my mind, it could be anything. My feet which were soaked in water are now covered in sand. Tiny stones poke my feet as I struggle to find my boots. This was supposed to be a pit stop, to get fresh water to drink and perhaps wash my face. I didn't realize just how long I had been here. "Oh my god...this can't be good!", I thought as I looked around and saw the pitch dark sky. The sun had disappeared, it was way past sunset. A lump grew on my throat as I remembered my grandmother's words, "you should move like the shadows...they should never know that you were on their side" When I was a child, my grandmother had told me a story that a long time ago even before she was born. Our village used to be very big. She said it was not like other ordinary villages, especially because it was run by two kings who were brothers, King Nozuko and king Lusiki. This village was also the richest amongst all the others. It was rich in minerals and soil. The other kings were jealous, "they used the bond that the king brothers had to turn them against each other" said my grandmother. "Nozuko was a warrior and Lusiki was wise" it would have had to appear like Lusiki betrayed his brother to break their unbreakable bond. "And that my dear was the beginning of the end" my grandmother stated.
