Hey, welcome back to my YouTube channel. Today, we are going to look at the top ten smallest and cutest birds in the world. 10: Crimson Chat The small, pretty Crimson Chat are native to Australia. The adult birds can reach up to a length of 10-13 cm and can weigh up to 13 grams. They are one of the unique birds in Australia because they walk or run, and other birds used to spring. The male bird has a red crown and breast, and they also have black markings around the throat and eyes. They are named after their attractive feathers. The females are brown and pinkish and have a white throat. They are mainly found in grasslands, dunes, and shrub-lands of Western and South Australia. During breeding season, the feathers of this male bird become brighter. The female bird lay 3-5 pink or white colored eggs, their size is 1 and 3 centimeters, and they mainly feed on insects, spiders, fruits, and seeds. 9: Tropical Parula The tiny, 11 cm long Tropical Parulas are mainly found across South of Mexico and Texas. The bird has a bluish upper part and bright yellow underpants. The wings bars of these animals are in white, and the female birds appear to be slightly duller. There are 14 subspecies of Tropical Parulas in the world, and all of them vary by color and size (between 11 and 15 inches). They mainly eat insects, spiders, and berries. 8: Bananaquit The small, and colorful Bananaquit is found across Central and South America. There are 41 recognized subspecies in this world, and the size of the bird varies from 10 cm to 13 cm. They have a black-grayish upper part and bright yellow underpants. The sharp-curved beak of this bird is suited for extracting nectar from flowers. They live in woodlands and tropical forests. They are very active birds and cling from flower to flower in search of nectar. Before breeding season, they would have built globe shaped nests using grass and vegetation. They mainly eat nectar and fruits as their main diet. 7: American Goldfinch It is a small, migratory bird and the state bird of Iowa, New Jersey, and Washington. Their size ranges from 11-14 cm in length, 11-20 grams in weight. They usually travel in flocks, and the most part of the bird is bright yellow, and the forehead is black. The wings and the tail are black, but sometimes you can spot white patches on its tail. The female birds are slightly duller than the colorful males. In winter season they migrate from the Canadian border to U.S and Mexico. During breeding season, they move to North Carolina of United States. They make calls of different patterns depending upon the conditions. 6: Brown Gerygone Brown gerygone is one of the smallest passerine birds in the world. They only grow up to 8-10 cm long, and they live in coastal areas and rain forests of Australia. It’s upper parts are in olive grey and has a creamy under part. They are usually found in small groups that consist of three to four birds. Brown gerygones spend most of their time on treetops to catch flying insects. 5: Goldcrest Goldcrest is the smallest songbird of Ireland, and they measure up to 9 cm in length. They are named after their bright yellow crown, and this small, beautiful bird is also called ‘king of birds’ across Europe. The crown of the bird is bounded by the thick, black markings. They have olive green upper parts and pale-yellow underparts. They have an attractive small and thin beak. Unlike males birds, the crown of female birds is pure yellow, and it is the only difference between male and female goldcrests in appearance. They live in broadleaf forests and gardens. Goldcrests are known for their high-pitched contact calls, and they consist of a series of notes. They usually sing in winter season. 4: Gold Headed Cisticola The Gold Headed Cisticola or Bright Headed Cisticola is found in India and Australia. They measure up to 10 cm in length and 10 grams in weight. The male bird has a golden head, throat, and breast. During breeding season their feathers become brighter than any other season. The female birds have dark brown upper parts and creamy underparts. They live in wetlands, farmlands, and sub-coastal areas. Golden headed Cisticola build nests by using leaves, grasses, and spider web before breeding season. It is one of the finest builders of nest in species of birds, and they feed on insects and seeds. They steal spider web to stitch together leaves and grasses to form perfect nests. 3: Pardalote The colorful Pardalote is one of smallest Austrian birds which measures from 8-12 cm. The male and female Pardalote have almost the same size, and they live in the eucalypt forests around the country. They have very short and stubby tails. Their attractive wings are in black with distinctive white dots, and the lower back and head have an olive-green covering. They play a significant role in controlling the insects called lerps across Australian forests. 2: Weebill The 8-9 cm long Weebill is the smallest Australian bird. The tiny species live throughout the woodlands of Australia. Weebills are named after its short, pale beak, and the bird has light brown feathers and yellowish underparts. They live in small flocks and remain in the same area throughout the year. They make dome shaped nests using grass, vegetation, and feathers before breeding season. The small and thick beak of the bird helps them to catch very small insects. 1: Bee Hummingbird Bee hummingbirds are the smallest living birds in the world that belong to Cuba, and they mainly inhabit in coastal forests of the country. The tiny bird has a length of 5 cm and weighs between 1.5 – 2 grams. The female bee hummingbirds are slightly larger than the male birds. Bee hummingbird can beat its wing 80 times per second in different patterns. During breeding season, the wing beat increases to a rate of 200 times per seconds. Bee hummingbirds visit 1200-1500 flowers in a single day, and it plays an important role in transferring the pollen. The male bee hummingbird has bluish upper parts and grayish white underparts. The upper feathers of female bird are bluish-green, and the underparts are pale grey. Bee hummingbirds mainly feed on nectar and consume small insects occasionally.
