Do you know what is force labor is ? This cases involve deception and manipulation and physical violence. In the history of the Philippines the Filipino people agonized beneath the misrule of the Spanish. When the Spanish took over the islands in the mid-1500s, their fierce religious orders "froze the Filipino masses to permanent impotence. The natives were of no consequence to the Spaniards, except as a source of revenue. Many Filipinos suffered abuse and injustice because of force labor. Filipino worked for little to no pay. They were also separated from their families and were forced to work despite hazardous or unhealthy conditions, resulting in injuries and death. This led to a string of revolts, that eventually gave rise to a wider revolution against the Spanish colonial government. Under Spanish rule, the indigenous families had to cultivate, not only enough food and crops for their own sustenance, but also great portions which they were forced to hand over to the warlords. Euphemistically, the Spanish called these forced portions "tributes”. In the modern day Philippines, Forced labour is the most common element of modern slavery. It is the most extreme form of people exploitation.Although many people associate forced labour and slavery with physical violence, in fact the ways used to force people to work are more insidious and ingrained in some cultures.
