She was the mother of believers , Khadija bint Khuwaylid ibn Asad ibn Abd - Al - Uzza ibn Qusai ibn Kilab . She was born in Mecca 10 years prior to the Year of the Elephant . She grew up in a rich household and was raised with good manners . She ( may Allah be pleased with her ) was a beautiful and smart woman . She married Atiq ibn ' A'idh and gave birth to Hind , then he died . She later married Abu Hala at - Tamimi and gave birth to a daughter and a son , then her husband died . She stayed unmarried after that , and inherited great fortune and became wealty . She used to hire men to work for her and she refused those who wanted to marry her , till she worked with the Prophet ( PBUH ) . She hired him in one of her trade journeys , and her assistant Mais ara- who accompanied Muhammad in the journey told her about his generosity , manners , honesty and the prophethood proofs , as he saw the clouds umbrellaing him so that the sun would not burn him . Khadija hoped she would marry Muham mad , and Allah responded , and the marriage happened . This immaculate house was full of affection , compassion , and love , and Khadija gave birth to six children : Qasim , Zaynab , Umm Kulthum , Ruqayyah , Fatimah , and Abd - Allah . The two boys died during their childhood , while the girls grew up , witnessed Islam , and immigrat . They all died during the life of the prophet ( PBUH ) except Fatimah who died six months after his death .
