This is the picture of OSP. The pink areas on the board are coated with OSP to prevent the copper from oxidizing. These areas are called “PAD”. How to know whether the board is coated with OSP or not. As you can see on the clip, when turning the board under the light, the board that is coated with OSP reflects light, and the board that is not coated with OSP do not reflect light. This is the picture of Immersion Gold. The golden areas on the board are coated with gold to prevent the copper from oxidizing. We also call these areas “PAD”. Selective Immersion Gold applies water-based organic and gold over the copper to prevent it from oxidizing. Here, the pink part in the upper red box shows that this board is coated with OSP. And as you can see it in the lower red box, the golden pad surrounding the OSP is Immersion Gold. So Selective Immersion Gold consists a part of OSP and a part of Immersion Gold, which are the pink part and golden part on the board. Let’s learn about the components of board. To get a better understanding, we group the components into four categories, board edge, printing, assembly and holes. Board edge-related category includes breakaway tabs, slot, bridge and scrap mark. Breakaway tab is the part that is marked with a red frame. This parts will be cut-off materials after assembly process is completed.
