Hello everyone! Today This lesson will be about Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal. First, let’s start with the basics. When you have 2 parallel lines and a third line going through them it is called a transversal. As you can see there are now 8 angles formed, each of which is similar and different.  First, we go through corresponding angles, If you were to take the top half of this diagram it should mirror the bottom half which would mean your angles would be congruent/equally to each other.  Next, we have alternate interior angles, these are the angles in between the 2 parallel lines. Alternate means one is on the left and one is on the right of the transversals line. In this case, 3 and 6 and 4 and 5 are alternate interiors and congruent.  But, the same rules apply for alternate exterior angles, but these are the angles outside of the parallel lines. So in this case, 1 and 8 and 2 and 7 are alternate exteriors and congruent. Finally, we have vertical angles, when you see 2 lines that cross each other and somewhat form an X, the angles across each other will be congruent. In this case, 1 and 4 and 2 and 3, as well as 6 and 7 and 5 and 8, are congruent.  All these types of angles will not only present themselves in the form of 2 parallel lines and a transversal, there are many other forms where you can find these types of angles.
