Goniotomy. Elevated. Introducing the SION Surgical instrument - a new chapter in goniotomy innovation and practice is here. A device pure in both form and function - featuring a signature bladeless design Brought to you by Sight Sciences, a leader in canal-based minimally invasive glaucoma surgery, SION's future forward design gives you the potential to elevate your everyday goniotomy experience. Here, the beauty is in the details. SION was co-developed with leading glaucoma surgeons to offer an intuitive surgical experience designed to give you greater control — and confidence — in practice. To begin the procedure, SION is inserted into the eye through a pre-existing clear corneal incision of at least 2mm width. From here, the trabecular meshwork is identified under gonioscopic visualization. Using the rounded toe to puncture the trabecular meshwork, the Lower Foot is advanced into Schlemm’s canal. The Lower Foot allows for ease of placement, coming to a rest against the scleral wall. Nestled into position, the Upper Foot of the device will find itself resting atop the trabecular meshwork. From here, the instrument is advanced, with the Lower Foot acting as an anchor against the back wall, ensuring smooth movement throughout the goniotomy procedure. The Upper Foot’s tissue collection window allows for accumulation of freed TM. As SION is advanced, its signature bladeless design gently guides the tm into the mouth. As it travels, the back of the mouth and tissue collection window accumulate freed TM. When complete, SION instrument can be removed from the eye. Residual trabecular meshwork may be removed with micro-forceps, or aspiration. This gentle procedure removes trabecular meshwork giving aqueous humor direct access to Schlemm's canal.
