Thousands of people who say they love animals sit down once or twice a day to enjoy the flesh of creatures who have been utterly deprived of everything that could make their lives worth living and who endured the terror of factory farming. We believe the consumption of insects could make the future a better place. Thats why we chose the topic insect cuisine for our infographic poster. Will insect cuisine be the meat replacement of tomorrow? By 2050, the global population is expected to hit 10 billion people. There is not enough agricultural land available to provide the future population with the kind of diet people have right now in most countries. Especially the production of meat has multiple negative impacts on humankind, the environment and the animals themselves. Therefore experts say the diet of 2050 will revolve less around meat, fish and more around bugs. Not only are insects rich sources of protein and other essential nutrients, they are also more eco-friendly to grow, causing far less harm to the planet. Centered in the middle you can see how humans, the environment and the animals are all connected and how each area affects the others. The people part shows how many insects are aready eaten in all the different countries of the world. The second illustration describes how bacteria gets in humans bodies due to factory farming of livestock. The most important examples show how much better an insect-based-cuisine would be for the environment. Insect farming would improve the ecological footprint majorly. For the animals the first thing that comes to mind is their wellbeing. Cattles basic needs are ignored and their freedom of movement is restricted. Insects on the other hand, naturally live closely together in small spaces and therefore do not suffer from factory farming. The other three infographics are about circular economy, amount of protein and the edible portion in comparison to a cow. The last section on our poster is the ethical approach. Insects are also animals, that we would kill to eat. How can we justify that? The answer is simple. The bugs are killed by slowly lowering the temperature. Since this process also naturally happens in the wild, when winter comes, they are actually not harmed at all. All of this information is a valid reason why to include insect cuisine in our future of food. To make the future a better place.
