Welcome to the church of Pentecost audio devotional. It’s the Thursday June 30, 2022 edition. Topic: Who Is The Greatest? Scripture References: Mark chapter 9 verse 33 to 37; Philippians chapter 2 verse 3 to 5. Exposition: The event of today’s Scripture reading has been recorded in all the synoptic gospels. An unfortunate argument ensued among the disciples of Jesus. They argued about who was the greatest among them. To settle this, Jesus told them that, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all”. Certainly, this response will not be appealing to the disciples. This is because their understanding of the greatest is the one being honoured by all. God expects humility on the part of His children. When we serve in a position of honour, we must not be carried away with the glamour that surrounds the office. However, we must carry the burden that accompanies that position. Jesus cautions against this kind of mentality. Dear Child of God, which office do you currently hold in the Church, school or organisation? God expects that we will serve with humility, for the greatest is the servant of all. Reflect on this, “If anyone wants to be first, he must be the very last, and the servant of all”. The Bible further admonishes us in Philippians chapter 2 verse 3 to 5 that, in humility, we should consider others as better than ourselves. When we have this mindset, then we will be productive in the Lord’s service and not get carried away by the positions that we occupy. As we render services in the house of God and in all spheres of society, let us be wary of our “praise-singers”. Their words are supposed to be a source of encouragement; however, if care is not taken, their words of affirmation can make us proud. Let us drop every superiority mindset and lead God’s people with simplicity. Prayer Guide: May we consider ourselves as unworthy servants with one desire to serve the Lord.
