ALAN TURING BOTTA - INGLESE Alan Mathison Turing was an English mathematician, computer scientist, cryptanalyst known as the father of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. Alan Turing was clearly an highly advanced thinker for its time. In 1950, he was already asking the question: "Can machines think?". He understood the need for empirical evidence, known as the Turing Test. The Turing Test involves in a conversation between a man ‘A’, a woman ‘B’ and a third person ’C’, the third person has to distinguish the man from the woman, the man, unlike woman, has to bluff, and it can be switched with a machine. The idea was that if the questioner could not tell the difference between human and machine, the computer would be considered to be ‘intelligent’ as a human. Alan Turing thus gives us the basis for artificial intelligence. Turing suggested that by the year 2000 the average interrogator would have less than a 70% chance of making the right decision after five minutes of questioning. The AI aristocracy strongly supported the contest until it became clear how badly the machines were performing. However in 2014 ‘Eugen Goostman’ passed the turing test by convincing one in 3 people that he was a 13 year old ukrainian boy able to speak low-level english, winning the Turing Test Competition. The Turing Test organized in London was a simplification of the original Turing test, where the machine had to talk with a Judge for 5 minutes, the requirement to pass was to be mistaken for a human being for at least 30 questions. Even if Eugen is very far from passing the original turing test, which involved a real artificial intelligence capable of autonomous thinking, it is important how one of the most difficult goals computing ever has been reached. Now I want to talk about artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence is a field that studies the intelligence demonstrated by machines, the term has been used to describe machines with human cognitive skills, such as learning and problem solving. Machines equipped with artificial intelligence think through a neural network, which is inspired by the human brain and makes the machines think.
