I’ll Show you, Father. We are met with a mysterious cloaked figure bolting on horseback running away into the night from a great castle leaving behind everything she had ever known. Only as Daylight hugged the land once more did they stop running. Many miles of fleeting feelings and tired legs go by before reaching a humble little cottage homestead nestled in the beautiful countryside. In the early morning hours, knocking could be heard at the door. Almost unconscious from the strain of travel, all they could do is hope they weren’t dead when they woke. As the door opened, she fell to the ground at a man's feet. She woke up groggy in someone else's bed. She glanced around the room and got an overall warm and comforting feeling. She could rest some more if she hadn't noticed a man in the corner watching her. “W-Who are you?” she screamed. “I could ask the same of you! My name is Gawain, what’s your’s?” Gawain snarked back. There was a long pause until the girl finally said. “I can’t tell you that.” “Why not? I took care of you did I not?” Gawain stated. “You don’t understand! I just can’t. It’s complicated, okay?” “Well if you can’t even tell me your name you’d best be prepared to work! Strangers that live together, work together so get ready for breakfast and come downstairs” Gawain tells her. She washed the assayed feeling from her face and went downstairs to find a curiously decorated kitchen and dining room. Many herbs line racks hung from the ceiling as well as crammed into every little space on the counter and walls. Amongst all the herbs one stood out to the girl for its great quantity. “What’s with all the coriander?” She asks Gawain. “It’s got a good message. It symbolizes hidden worth or hidden merit. It tastes pretty good too, and thankfully it’s in season.” Gawain replies. Gawain sets a small wooden table with two plates and a small clay vase to go between them. Gawain then goes to another room for a little while. The girl sits down in one of two whiny chairs and thinks about her hidden worth. After only a few moments Gawain came back with a beautiful Rhododendron and placed it unceremoniously into the vase. “What does that symbolize?” She inquired. “You know, I’m not entirely sure. I just thought it looked pretty. How do eggs and ham sound?” Gawain asked. “That sounds great! Thank you.” She replied. “You’re welcome but it’s not free you know. You’ll have to work for it later” Gawain remarked. “What kind of work are we doing anyway?” She asked. “Mostly work in my garden,” Gawain replied. “Your garden?” She asked. “Was it not obvious? Yes, I do in fact garden.” Gawain replied. “I’ve never gardened before. It sounds interesting, ``she said. They spent the ladder part of the day picking weeds and herbs such as chamomile, dill, and dandelions. One part of the garden worth mentioning was completely packed with massive pumpkins big enough to fit a whole person inside. As they worked their way from one side of the garden to the other the sun slowly crept under the horizon and in its final acts of golden glory, a small man on a horse made himself apparent. His yelling toward the girl and Gawain broke their working trance. “Excuse me!” The man started, “May I have a moment of your time?” The two stopped working to indulge the man. “What do you need?” Gawain yelled up at the man. “Have you seen the Princess? She has gone missing-” The small man cut himself short. He had begun to stare wide-eyed at the girl. She suddenly put on a face of worry and without hesitation went back to the house. “What? Princess? I haven't seen much of anyone around here lately, sorry.” Gawain said to the man “That is well okay sir. You should better count your blessings. I will be seeing you again soon, very soon.” The small man said to Gawain. “What’s that supposed to mean?” Gawain responded “You’ll know soon enough, good day sir.” The small man retorted. “Uh-huh, okay then, I’ll be seeing you?” Gawain responded With that, the small man rode off back the way he came. Gawain went back to the house to check up on what happened to the girl. Ounce in the doorway he yells, “You alright? …no response… “Hello?” he yelled again. Gawain went searching upstairs for the girl and found her packing a bag. She turned to Gawain and told him, “We must leave immediately!” “Why? This is my home.” Gawain responded. “Neither I nor you are safe here, at least not anymore. We must go!” The girl said. “Why don’t we calm down and think about this? It’s too late to go out now anyway. Let’s just get some sleep and talk about it tomorrow” Gawain said, trying to console the girl. “Okay but, we mustn’t wait any longer tomorrow,” She said. At some point in the night, Gawain and the girl had found sleep. Gawain dreamt of being in an open field. When he looked across the field he saw the girl elegantly dressed and gracefully running in a field of flowers. Gawain let out a smile and called for her but when he did she turned to see him and ran further into the field away from him. Gawain said, “Wait! I’m coming!” Eventually, the two came to a field of Rhododendrons and Azaleas. The girls ran across the surface of the flowers and so Gawain would follow suit. However when he tried to follow her all he could do was sink. “What? Help!” The girl seemed not to notice. “I want to be with you!” he yelled. Still no response. Gawain would try to call out but the flowers were at his neck now, not too far from covering his mouth. He began to sink further and then there was darkness. He felt the cold earth on his skin, eternally bonded where he was. All he could think about was what he could have given for another chance to walk again. “----i-n…” “Ga--in…” “GAWAIN!” He awoke in a cold sweat with the sight of the girl shaking him in a panic and the sound of loud crashing sounds coming from the front door. “They’re here!” the girls screamed. “Who?” replied Gawain. “We must go now!” the girl yelled. Gawain gave a moment of silence and thought to finally say, “Okay, pack your bags, we’re leaving!” They both ran with their essentials out the back door as the front door came crashing down. When Gawain shut the door behind him he could make out about seven or eight armored men who then focused their gaze on him. The two runaways got on horseback and rode into the night. The knights turned around to get on their horses. Many hours of running and hiding in the woods were the only way they could get away. They eventually found a small cave a few miles away from Gawain’s house to spend the night in and hopefully not be found. All that's left to do now is rest. As the morning sun came up it washed over Gawain’s face. He made an unhappy face and then opened his eyes. What he saw were his horse and a burnt-out fire. The cave had worked! he thought. Gawain then looks at the girl next to him. He made a puzzled, frustrated face and stood up. He fashioned a chair from a log and waited for the girl to wake up. Intently watching over her, he waited for his questions to be answered. Gawain eventually notices the girl moving and she sits up. Gawain begins to stare at her in disbelief as she just gets up and walks away. “Wait, hold on!” Gawain yelled She didn’t even try to slow down. “Why did the royal guard break down my door? Who are you? Where did you even come from?” “You can’t know!” She says as she continues walking. “Why? What do you mean?” Gawain says back. Eventually, they both reach the bank of a river and the girl sits by it to look at her reflection as Gawain stands behind her. “It is imperative to my life mission that you know, not my origin.” She states “Well can I at least know your name? Give me something!” Gawain exclaimed. “Saria” - the girl “What?” - Gawain “My name is Saria,” Saria said after she had stood up to face Gawain. They stare into each other's eyes for moments more until Saria turns away to blink. Saria began walking up a nearby hill back towards the makeshift camp and said, “Follow me to the next city. I need new equipment.” The two were now on the lam and an adventure. They rode through meadows of golden grains and oceans of waving wildflowers. The journey was made easier by previous adventures that had carved out the optimal path. They came across great waterfalls and Mighty Mountains shrouded in fog. When the two finally reach the next city, Saria leads them directly to the market district. Amongst the many fruits, vegetables, and livestock Gawain had stopped to ask, “Who are we buying equipment for anyway?” “For me of course, who else?” Saria replied. “Oh, I don’t know., '' Gawain answered. Later that day as the sun settles, “We should look for a place to stay,” Gawain says to Saria “Like an inn or hospital? Sure, let’s go.” Saria replied The two eventually come across an inn. As they enter, Saria spots a knight from the next city over and hides her face with her hood before pointing out the knight to Gawain. They both quickly head to the administration desk to get a room. Before they finish talking with the attendant, however, a knight walks up to Gawain and removes his face guard. Knight, “Have You seen the princess from the next city over. As embarrassing as it sounds, we can't find her anywhere and we need help from people like you.” Gawain, “I haven’t seen anything like that lately. Sorry I couldn’t do much” As Gawain is saying this he notices a knight captain is looking him in the eyes from a table across the dining hall. They hold tense eye contact until Saria pulls Gawaine’s attention away to say, “They said that a room is ready for us, come on.”
