Welcome to the church of Pentecost audio devotional. It’s the Tuesday June 28, 2022 edition. Topic: Jesus, Our Perfect Example In Service. Scripture Reference: John chapter 13 verse 1 to 17. Exposition: Jesus is our perfect example in all issues of life. He is our perfect example in holiness, prayer, love and in everything. Today’s devotion examines Jesus as our perfect example in service. John chapter 13 verse 1b states that Jesus loved the disciples, and so went on to show the full extent of the love by washing the disciples’ feet. Jesus demonstrates that genuine service is borne out of pure love. In verse four, Jesus got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. Genuine service requires that we take off our pride and take the form of a servant. In The Church of Pentecost, it is not surprising to find academicians, top musicians, businessmen and women, among others that join to erect canopies for our conventions. Similarly, same will carry logistics from our church buildings to gospel crusade grounds and back. We must demonstrate this service in humility, and it is the Jesus’ way. From verses 12 and 13, Jesus explained to the disciples why He washed their feet. Jesus explained that the disciples accord him two significant titles, ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’. However, He put these titles aside to serve, and this is borne out of pure love. Dear friend, God desires that in whichever capacity that we find ourselves, we must not be carried away by titles; rather, we must be clothed in humility and service. In verses 14 and 15, Jesus commands that such a magnificent humility in service should be replicated by the disciples to others. In our Vision 2023 “Possessing the Nations” Agenda, this service in humility must go beyond our Church buildings into every fabric of society. This is how we can transform every society with values and principles of the Kingdom of God. Jesus concludes in verse 17 that, now that we know these things, we will be blessed if we do them. To attract God’s blessings, let us look to Jesus as our perfect example in service. Prayer Guide: Enable us pursue fully the example of Jesus’ humble service. Our Memory Verse For This Week: Mark chapter 10 verse 45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” Let’s go over it again: Mark chapter 10 verse 45: “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” Thank you for listening. Do have a blessed day!
