Artisans, craftsmen, masters - they all have one thing in common and that is the way in which they have mastered and handle their tools. The main reason for this is that these skilled individuals are actually handling these tools. They know exactly what the tool can do. They know exactly what the impact of the handling of that tool will be on their final project. We as shooters should learn from this and be able to follow suit. We need to be able to see that a gun is merely a tool and how good I know it, understand it, and handle it. That is why it is important to ensure you do a lot of dry exercises. Meaning exercises without shooting actual ammo. You need to be able to handle the weapon, feel comfortable with it and ensure you have mastered it. Drawing from the holster, gripping, punching out and aiming, pulling the trigger, moving while doing it, mag changes and more. All of these aspects will be reinforced the more you handle your firearm. But not only will it make you more proficient with that tool, but it will also improve your shooting. Why? Because you will spend less time worrying about fixing fundamentals and have more time focussing on landing that perfect shot. Therefore, it is imperative that you spend time handling your weapon, making sure you understand it, making sure it becomes that tool that will make you the ultimate craftsman of your trade.
