Loyalty is one of the most important values since everybody needs support. As human beings, we cannot face all of our challenges alone; we need people to confide in, those who are trustworthy and reliable. This is why I believe that in order to gain one’s trust, loyalty must be reciprocated. Loyalty is an essential component of building human relationships and if one is not loyal to others, they should not expect others to be loyal to them. The theme of loyalty is undeniably prominent within the texts that have been studied this semester, whether this theme is reinforced or not. Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein and Shakespeare’s Hamlet both reinforce the importance of mutual respect and loyalty while Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman goes against this theme.
