In reference to the DepEd Memorandum, entitled National Science and Technology Fair for SY 2021- 2022, from Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones, every division shall hold the NSTF. In this regard, the Department of Education, Schools Division Office of Quezon City, is conducting the District Science and Technology Fair 2022, with the theme: EXPANDING the HORIZON: FUTURES of STEM, starting June 6, 8 & 10, 2022 respectively, virtually, due to COVID – 19 restrictions. This year’s NSTF events & competitions are: A. SIYENSIKULA – an original video competition, B. LIKHA – a research proposal competition and C. #STEMTOKPERIMENTS -- a TIKTOK science experiment competition. Events and competitions like this aim to empower the youth and cultivate innovation and creativity amid the changing world. Each competition also believes in showcasing the competence of the learners in addressing community problems for sustainable development and maximizing their potentials of being inquisitive and creative in dealing with real life problems. Furthermore, Strict compliance to National and Local IATF Protocols must be observed at all levels. The District II Science and Technology Fair 2022, with the theme: “Expanding the Horizon: Futures of STEM” was held last June 6, 2022 from 1:00 – 5:00 PM, with Batasan Hills National High School as the host school. The event commenced with an opening program, thru an audiovisual presentation of a nationalistic Song and a prayer, with Mr. Restituto M. Cortez, T III of Batasan Hills National High School as the master of ceremony. Mrs. Nenita M. Lorenzo, district II leader gave her opening remarks followed by a video clip of the inspirational message of our beloved Education Program Supervisor in Science, Dr. Maria Pilar O. Capalongan. It was followed by the Program Goals, Introduction of Judges, Contest Mechanics and Criteria by Mrs. Agnes A. Resurreccion, HT VI of Justice Cecilia Munoz Palma High School, Mrs. Lerma S. Tuazon, HT III of Holy Spirit National High School and Mr. Jose S. Caluza, HT III of Bagong Silangan High School respectively. Six schools namely; Batasan Hills National High School, Justice Cecilia Munoz Palma High School, Commonwealth High School, Bagong Silangan High School, Holy Spirit National High School and Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School participated in the said competition with SIYENSIKULA, STEMTOKPERIMENTS and LIKHA – Life, Physical, Robotics & Intelligent Machines and Mathematics & Computational Science (Individual & Team) as the contest categories for this year’s DSTF. For the Oral Presentation and Q & A, individual links for LIKHA (Life), LIKHA (Physical), LIKHA (Robotics & Intelligent Machines) and LIKHA (Mathematics & Computational Science) were sent for the participants, coaches and judges. The Siyensikula and STEMtokperiments entries were already pre judged a day before the actual contest. After almost two hours of patiently waiting, was the much awaited announcement and awarding of certificates to winners by Mrs. Babie Noreen P. Clemente, HT VI of Batasan Hills National High School. It was followed by the awarding of certificates to the CD I judges and the technical working group of CDII. The day ended, with the closing remarks of Mr. Roland P. del Rosario, HT III of Judge Feliciano Belmonte Sr. High School, congratulating everyone, especially the winners, for a job well done and motivating those who were not able to make it, to strive more next time. The District II Science and Technology Fair 2022 was indeed entertaining, educational and competitive especially to students and teachers. The SIYENSIKULA, STEMTOKPERIMENT and LIKHA contest categories enhanced the interest of students and drove them to put forth their best effort. Since it is done annually, it is important that persons involved aspire for a far better and more successful District Science and Technology Fairs in the coming years.
