A: Hello María Jesús! How are things?/How is it going? B: Fine, it's great to see you! A: You look different! Let me see. It's not your hair. You’ve lost some weight, haven’t you? but you seem stronger. B: Yes, it's incredible! My physical appearance has changed in only two months. I’m on a diet. A: What kind of diet is it? I'm a bit sceptical about diets. B: A protein diet. It makes you increase your muscle tone while decreasing your weight. I don't take up exercise on a daily basis. Look how great I look! A: Really you’ve boosted your muscle mass! But did you ask for advice from a dietician? B: No, I didn't. I found this diet on the Internet, I checked out some blogs and there was a forum where many people gave their views on different diets and this was the best rated. It definitely convinced me to try it. A: I'm not a specialist but as I see it, this is an unhealthy diet. What worries me most is that it lacks in (curbs?) carbohydrates like cereals, grains, fruit and vegetables, what is more, it's said to have harmful, long-term effects. B: Do you think so? What kind of side-effects? A: Have you heard that this diet entails health problems such as kidneys or liver diseases. I’ve heard that as your metabolism is being forced, your body can be aged, too. B: You aren't joking, aren't you?/or You're kidding! It’s just the other way around, it slows aging and promotes longevity. I know some specialists and personal trainers who highly recommend this diet! A: Go to a nutritionist, if you want a professional opinion, but it seems to me that a change of habits is better than a miracle diet. B: You may be right but some studies show that eating a high-protein diet has several benefits for our health. Not only does it help you to lose weight, but it also works to stabilize your blood sugar levels, improve your ability to learn and concentrate and to enhance your muscles and bones. A: I don't go along with you/I totally disagree with you. The safest and most effective method to lose weight is by exercising regularly, eating fewer calories, and having an adequate, varied intake for a balanced diet. To my mind/To my knowledge, your diet is not complete/your diet is poor. B: But I complete my diet with dietary supplements, so there is no problem. Moreover, I could read some tips to make my diet richer and safer. One thing that we should consider is purchasing high-quality protein foods, for example you’d better eat grass-fed animal meat and better wild-caught fish than farmed fish. A: Be careful. That could be true but it is dangerous to base your diet on proteins, you can unbalance your body. It's common knowledge that our Mediterranean diet is one of the healthiest pattern in the world. If you follow it, you won't need dietary supplements. It’s advisable to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. B: You know I’ve always hated vegetables and almost all kind of fruits! Before going on this diet I ate all kinds of junk and processed food, don’t you remember? A: That's true, but you can do it another way. Remember a poor diet can't be good for our body. Take a closer look at what you are eating... B: On a high-protein diet, you will feel completely satiated after eating, and you won’t have to deal with the blood sugar highs and lows that lead to cravings and moodiness. A: I can't believe my ears! And just out of curiosity, won't you be missing breakfast or dinner? B: Of course not, I can eat eggs or ham every morning and I don't skip meals. You should give it a try! The benefits are spectacular, as you can see! A: That's enough! No way! I’m not impressed by these reasons/arguments! Of course, proteins are important, but not more than other food. Let me give you a piece of advice, take the bull by the horns, go to a specialist, he/she will encourage you to follow healthy eating habits, and do more exercise, that will be good for your health.
