Nr. 4: Durres / Kap von Rodon As the main port city in Albania, Durres has a history dating back more than 300 years. Located only about 35 kilometers from the capital of Tirana, Durres is packed with impressive historical sites such as the Durres Amphitheater, the largest of its kind in the Balkans. While the beach promenade hosts countless restaurants and bars, the are countless attractions in the city’s close proximity, such as the relatively undiscovered „Cape of Rodon“. This narrow strip of land is a 10 kilometer long stunning peninsula that extends into the Adriatic Sea. The rocky peninsula is overgrown with lush nature and surrounded by virgin sandy beaches. To reach the site, visitors can embark on a 40-minute long hike and then opt for a relaxed swim in the clear waters of the Adriatic Sea. Nr. 3: Theth National Park For visitors who like to spend time outdoors, the Theth National Park is undoubtedly one of the best places to visit in Albania. Tucked away in the north of the country in the Albanian Alps, tourists can enjoy the pristine landscape and charming villages that are still filled with authentic traditions, cuisine and unique cultures. The national park is well-liked for its waterfalls and crystal-clear lakes. The three mountain peaks of Thethi, Boga and Razma provide visitors with an unforgettable experience of Albania in its most natural state. Theth is also home to the „Blue Eye of Albania“, a natural spring with crystal-clear, multi-colored waters, hidden away in the middle of the forest. Nr. 2: Butrint National Park Butrint National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Albania. Located in close proximity to the Greek island of Corfu, the National Park is home to a great number of diverse ecosystems and stunning archaelogical sites. The peninsula borders Lake Butrint on the one side and the Vivari Channel on the other side, while being home to over 1,200 different types of plants and animals. The main attraction in the Parc are the more than 2500 year-old archaeological sites, including the relics of a Roman theater, a Byzantine Basilica and two castles. Wandering around these ancient ruins with their stunning natural surroundings is one of the most unique experiences to be had in Albania. Nr. 1: Tirana Once full of grey, unwelcoming communist buildings, Tirana has transformed considerably into a fun and friendly place since the early 1990s. Today, the brightly colored pedestrian streets showcase colorful Ottoman-ear buildings and Italian architecture that highlight the country’s rich past. There is a large number of museums and art galleries worth visiting, in particular the „BUNK’ART“, a former government bunker that now hosts famous art exhibitions. Another must-see place is the Skanderbeg Square, where also the National Museum can be found. With endless bars, cafes and restaurants, Tirana has one of the most lively nightlife scenes in the Balkans. Visitors are often impressed with all the underrated capital has to offer.
