He joins in well when we are reading shared text and thinks carefully before volunteering his answers. It is always a pleasure to hear Ollie read aloud because he is a fluent and expressive reader. I’m really impressed by just how confident Ollie is when it comes to reading. For his young age, he is such a mature reader with a fantastic understanding of the vocabulary. He can empathise with the characters in the book and infer how they may be feeling based on what he has read. In writing, Ollie’s enjoyment of reading is apparent and he is able to transfer these ideas seamlessly to his work. Writing seems to come easily to Ollie and he is never stuck for ideas. He has worked really hard this year to include all the targets I have given him to improve his work. Ollie can write comfortable across a variety of genres and always makes his writing interesting to the reader through using a range of adjectives and adverbs. After completing his work, Ollie is able to proofread and add additions to his work. It is always such a pleasure to read through Ollie’s work and he has loved seeing his work on the big screen during our editing sessions. In SPaG lessons, Ollie shows a solid understanding of all areas covered. He can recognise and name a range of adjectives, adverbs, verbs and nouns and choose the correct verb tense to complete a sentence. He can apply the correct punctuation needed for commands, statements, questions and exclamations. Ollie has a great spelling knowledge too and learns to apply new spelling rules that he has learnt in his phonics. Ollie is a natural writer and I can see him becoming a famous author one day! He is always one of the first children ready to start the lesson and I can hear his voice loudly and clearly during our daily counting and recall sessions. Ollie is confident with working with two digit numbers, can recognise three digit numbers and explain the value of each part. Over the year, Ollie has risen to every challenge I have set him. He can use a written column method to add and subtract pairs of two digit numbers involving carrying and exchanging. He is equally as confident with multiplication and division being able to use a range of mental and written methods or jottings to support his thinking. Ollie is an absolute whizz with his times tables and is now seeking to smash the three minute mark for the 78 club! During assessments, Ollie has been scoring consistently above 90% on the year 2 tests which confirms his mathematical talent. Keep up the amazing work, Ollie! He is such a great role model to others with his behaviour and commitment to his learning. Ollie will always give 100% to every piece of work and he takes such care and pride in his presentation! Over the year, Ollie has always been reliable and trustworthy. He has enjoyed being a monitor for different tasks in the classroom and is great at reminding me about messages. In both the classroom and outside on the playground, he gets on well with his peers and I can't remember ever having to speak to him about his behaviour. It has been a real pleasure to have taught Ollie this year. I am sure that he will carry on his amazing work in year two and be a brilliant role model for the new year one children. Well done Ollie!
