He is confident to speak in front of the class to describe the characters in the text and can make predictions on what might happen next in a story. Joe loves reading to me in a morning and enjoys taking turns to ask and answer questions on the book. He is becoming more confident in recognising his letter sounds and is now starting to use his phonic knowledge to help him blend. Joe will sometimes guess a word using picture clues instead of building the word and sounding out. When it comes to writing, Joe has his own ideas for sentences but needs support and encouragement to put his thoughts down on paper. He can tell me that capital letters are needed at the start of a sentence and a full stop goes at the end and can include them when prompted. Joe is able to sound out some CVC words and can use a letter mat to remind him how the letter looks. In phonics lessons, Joe has enjoyed the practical games and is steadily increasing the number of digraphs he can recognise. He is starting to listen carefully to the sounds in words and learning how to write them down. He loves to break the words down by the sounds he can hear and with encouragement he will attempt to write them down. Joe is working hard to form his digits correctly and is almost there! He is working on recognising some number bonds to 10. With support, Joe is able to multiply and divide by 2 and 10 using practical equipment. He can count confidently in twos up to twelve and count in tens up to one hundred. At the start of the year, Joe was unable to access the assessment but will now attempt them with support. Since January, Joe has averaged 48% in the end of unit tests and scored a fantastic 73% in his latest addition and subtraction which shows that Joe can do it when he is focused. You can do it Joe! If someone is hurt or upset, Joe is always there to look after them and cheer them up. He has some good friends in the class and is never lonely at break times. He has enjoyed the practical lessons and particularly enjoyed art, music and science. When Joe concentrates, he has some great ideas for his work and now needs to channel that attention. Over the year, Joe has enjoyed volunteering for different jobs around the class and has loved being responsible for handing out and collecting in books. I would like to thank Joe for all the help this year and hope that he continues to build on the progress he has made when he begins year two. Class Teacher: Click or tap here to enter text.
