Want to stay focused at work or when you study? There is a technique called the “ Pomodoro Technique ”. Pomodoro is the Italian word for tomato (I love tomatoes by the way 😉). It is a super simple productivity technique created by Francesco Cirillo back in the early 80s to improve focus and productivity by eliminating distractions and maintaining concentration by taking breaks at optimal times. The best part is that it is so simple that you can get started in minutes. All you need to get started is a simple timer and a little discipline. The Pomodoro website can get you up and running quickly. All you have to do is: - set a timer for 25 minutes, - turn off all distractions - and focus. An important thing is to give yourself a reward when you are done. Take a 5-minute break before starting the next Pomodoro. A cup of coffee or a bar of chocolate, a stretch, or a frivolous conversation gives your brain a chance to happily divert attention. It is a bit like a 25-minute high-intensity workout at a mental gym followed by some mental relaxation. After 4 Pomodoros, take a longer break, 20 to 30 minutes. It works very similarly to Scrum (the Pomodoro technique is organized into six incremental objectives). You create your list of tasks and then estimate them based on the number of Pomodoros they will take to complete. Each day is like a sprint, and each Pomodoro is like a story. As you get better at the technique, you perform daily retrospectives to improve the process and the estimation. Popular Pomodoro apps are: - Focus booster - Pomodone - Forest - Toggl Pomodoro is a simple and powerful mental tool. Give it a try and test whether it works for you
