Hi. I’m Sheila Shaw from the Central Lab. Each year, Shaw’s Central Lab processes 90,000 tests on 35,000 samples. That’s a lot of test requests to keep up with, and those tests generate mountains of data that can be used to help Shaw bring to market the safest, most durable products possible. In 2014, the Central Lab transitioned from a paper request process to an electronic Laboratory Information Management System, or LIMS for short. That was a huge jump in capability. As Shaw has expanded its product lines from carpet to hard surfaces and now turf, the Central Lab has grown to support all of these products. We have grown at the same time and in the same direction as the company. In 2022 Central Lab’s LIMS application is taking another leap forward with the rollout of its enhanced LIMS application. Not only does LIMS allow users to request tests; it allows for the collection, aggregation, and analysis of the data those tests generate … and that makes Shaw an even stronger competitor in the flooring market. In this video I will introduce you to several of the new LIMS app’s key features and improvements you will want to know about. Improvement 1 … It is now much easier to request testing on all Shaw products, including hard surfaces and turf. Improvement 2 … LIMS now allows for keyword searches to help you find what you are looking for, like testing for trials on a new latex auxiliary. Improvement 3 … Now you can include different materials such as turf and yarn, on the same request at the same time. Improvement 4 … LIMS will now save your request in draft status so if you need to leave and come back later you can pick up where you were and not have to start over. Improvement 5 … You can now review and edit your test requests to ensure you have entered the exact test parameters you need, before you submit your request. And finally … Improvement 6 … LIMS is easily updatable. If there is a dropdown box that does not include a variable you need, just tell us. We can add it. Two other quick notes to make this conversion better for you. One, the first five steps ask for the same information as the prior version of the LIMS request form. The only difference … the form has been broken up into smaller, more digestible steps, rather than being one long questionnaire or eform. And second, the boxes where mandatory information must be entered are all colored yellow, so they are easy to spot. Central Lab is excited to roll out this new technology for us all to use to help drive Shaw forward in its efforts to bring the best, most durable, and safest products to market.
