In the anaerobic digestion plant the incoming agricultural and agro-industrial biomass are organically degraded and the products obtained are biogas and digestate. Biogas, the main product, consists mainly of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen energy valorization with production of electricity and heat and/or biomethane, that is, biogas refined with methane. The digestate instead is a material that, compared to the starting biomass, is homogeneous, with a higher moisture content because part of the dry substance has been biologically degraded, that is demolished by bacteria for the production of biogas. The organic substance that remains is more stable and contains elements of fertility, such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, which can usefully return to the soil to provide nutrition to crops.
