On the morning of May 26 KST, the Supreme Court of South Korea concluded that the sentence given to Sung ri by the High Military Court during his appeal trial in January of this year will hold. Previously, Sung ri was indicted for a total of 9 criminal charges in January of 2020, including solicitation of illegal prostitution, illegal overseas gambling, spread of illegally filmed sexual content, embezzlement, threatening and assault, etc. During his initial military court trial, Sung ri received a sentence of 3 years in prison after being found guilty of all 9 charges. Then, after filing for an appeal, Sung ri's sentence was reduced to 1.5 years by the High Military Court. Now, as of May 26 KST, the Supreme Court of South Korea has finalized Sung ri's sentence at 1 year and 6 months in prison. Sung ri, who has been held in military prison since the end of his initial trial in August of 2021, will be removed from the military and placed in civilian prison following the Supreme Court's ruling. As of May 26 KST, Seungri faces approximately 9 months in civilian prison, and will be released in February of 2023.
