As she walked away, I said, “you don’t have to act like white trash you know?” as a trauma response to being physically threatened. I grew up in Housing Commission surrounded by a lot of low-income Australians and when I am threatened physically, I relive past trauma often responding in ways I had while previously physically threatened by other humans. I am happy to provide a letter from my psychologist detailing this symptom of post-traumatic stress disorder. My mother often threatened to beat me frequently as a child so when this woman threatened to “deck me” and punched her palm centimeters from my face threateningly, I responded verbally the way I often did when my mother engaged in these kinds of physically aggressive behaviours. I then called the police and as I was on the phone to the call centre this woman came back down and continued screaming at me putting her face close to mine, picking up my lighter and lighting her cigarette and then bringing her face very close to mine and blowing smoke into it while continuing to yell in my face. The police officer in the 000 call centre could hear her screaming at me and how close she was coming into my personal space. This call centre operator sounded concerned and told me to stand up immediately and walk inside then lock my door. I messaged my roommates immediately apologizing if they overheard her and letting them know the police might be attending. The following day on the 1 September 2020 Tess began to message me saying that she did not appreciate me contacting the real estate to obtain the body corporate number and by raising concerns about our safety in our home as 10 a group dynamic that I was “putting words into her mouth”.
