It all starts with this Image: the backrooms, which may have sparked the interest for an aesthetic genre. The genre is Liminal spaces, and it is an interesting topic. Look at the following images, do you feel anything? They are meant to invoke a sense of Deja-vu, or a weird type of nostalgia, like if you have been there, but now, it is stripped of everything, including people. Liminal means transitional, so the best liminal images are, but are not limited to of hallways, playgrounds, or other transitional spaces. There are of course some brilliant ones of, for example your living room or childhood bedroom. They are kind of chilling if you look at them for long enough and start to ask: what happened to the people that used these rooms daily? or why were they abandoned? They are put out of their normal context, without an explanation to anything, which really drives the feeling. Their lower resolution, phone flash and other amateur photography add to the feeling. If you want to take a Liminal space image, it takes work to balance the unbalanced.
