Britain has got a National Health Service. People usually call it the "NHS". It gives free treatment for people when they are ill. Everybody has got a local doctor. He or she is a general practitioner (GP). If you are ill, you go to see your GP. The doctor will give you some treatment or send you to see a specialist or write a prescription. Specialists usually work in hospitals. To see your GP, you must make an appointment. If you have an accident you go to the Accident and Emergency department of the nearest hospital. You can also go to a private doctor or hospital, but you must pay for it. It is usually quicker. Your body needs 5 things: carbohydrates, protein, fibre, vitamins and minerals. If you want to be fit and healthy you should not eat chocolate bars, crisps or sweets and ice-cream. They only contain empty calories. You should eat enough protein. It helps to build your body. It is in chicken, cheese, butter, milk and fish. You also need carbohydrates from pasta, bread or rice to get enough energy. You can get fibres, vitamins and minerals from fruit and vegetables. You should not miss meals. You should do sports like running, swimming, cycling, walking. I do not do or play any sports. We have 5 PE lessons a week. I think it is enough for a teenager. Our gym is quite big. At the beginning of the lesson, we always do some warming up exercises and some gymnastics or we run and play ball games. When the weather is nice, we play outdoor games. There are some very serious illnesses like nervous breakdown, cancer and heart attack. Not serious illnesses are cold, flu, headache, toothache, stomach-ache and sore throat. Last time when I was ill, I had flu/cold. I had a temperature, a sore throat and a headache. I went to see my GP. She examined me and wrote a prescription. I went to the chemists to get my pills. I had to take one tablet once a day. I have never had an operation. If I have a toothache, I go to see a dentist. Last time I needed a filling in one of my teeth. The dentist gave me an anaesthetic, so I did not feel anything. She used a fast electric drill. Once I cut my finger on a knife. It happened in the kitchen. I was making a sandwich for myself. My finger was bleeding. I cleaned the wound and put a bandage on it. The most popular sport in Hungary is football. Football is a ball game played between two teams and the teams must score goals. There are eleven players in each team. The referee and the 2 linesmen are the officials who control the match. Golf is an expensive sport. People play it on a golf course. You have a small white ball and you hit it with a club to get it into the hole. You use different clubs for different things. There are 18 holes on a golf course. Olympic Games have been held in different countries in every 4 years since 1896. The main Olympic symbols are the rings, the flame and the flag. The five different coloured rings represent the five continents. There are team and individual sports. Now more than 204 countries send athletes to the games. There are winter Olympics, too. My favourite sports woman is Hosszú Katinka Some winter sports are skiing, skating, ice hockey, bob-sledging, Water sports are swimming, water-polo, rowing, sailing, surfing. Ball games are handball, basketball, volleyball, tennis, table-tennis, baseball. Athletics are running, jumping, discus throwing, Self-defence sports are judo, karate, boxing. And other sports are horse riding, shooting, fencing, weightlifting, gymnastics, car and motor racing, cycling.
