WATER Dear teachers and friends, I am talking to you about water and the importance of water in our lives, water pollution and what to do to control water pollution. Water is essential for the survival of life. Fresh water has no color, smell or taste. Wells, rivers, lakes, and oceans are full of water. Water is also the main constituent of all body fluids. A water molecule is a combination of one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms. Water is found in three states: solid, liquid, and gaseous. The term water is used to refer to a liquid state. Water is also called a universal solvent because of its ability to dissolve substances. Water is one of the most important substances that are needed for plants and animals. Without water, all organisms in the world would die. Water is necessary not only for drinking but also for our day to day life purposes like bathing, cooking, cleaning, and washing and so on. We cannot imagine a life without water. About 97% of the world's water is in the oceans. The remaining 3% is freshwater, about three-quarters of which is found in icebergs and glaciers. But fresh water is in short supply in many parts of the world. Water is polar, an excellent solvent, it has high heat capacity, Water has cohesive and adhesive properties, Water is less dense as a solid than as a liquid. Water pollution is the release of substances into bodies of water that makes water unsafe for human use and disrupts aquatic ecosystems. Water pollution can be caused by a plethora of different contaminants, including toxic waste, petroleum, and disease-causing microorganisms. Human activities that generate domestic sewage and toxic waste cause water pollution by contaminating water with disease-causing microorganisms and poisonous substances. Oil spills are another source of water pollution that have devastating impacts on surrounding ecosystems. Because very important to our life to prevent a water pollution We have many ways to prevent water pollution these are, Conserve water by turning off the tap when running water is not necessary. This helps prevent water shortages and reduces the amount of contaminated water that needs treatment. Be careful about what you throw down your sink or toilet. Don’t throw paints, oils or other forms of litter down the drain. Use environmentally household products, such as washing powder, household cleaning agents and toiletries. Take great care not to overuse pesticides and fertilisers. This will prevent runoffs of the material into nearby water sources. Don’t throw litter into rivers, lakes or oceans. Help clean up any litter you see on beaches or in rivers and lakes, make sure it is safe to collect the litter and put it in a nearby dustbin. You also might have seen disasters caused by rain, you might have come to know such things from the news through media such as the radio, newspaper, television and so on. These are the problems water turns as a villain, Floods, Landslide, Uprooting of trees, Sea turbulence, Soil erosion, Mudslide, Destruction of houses and buildings, Diseases of rainy season. Globally, water use has increased rapidly in recent years due to population growth and increased per capita consumption. Most of the increase is in the developing countries. 70% of water use is for agriculture, 22% is for industry and 8% for domestic purposes, although there is considerable regional variation. Water very Important to our home and family life, our livelihood, our cultural practices, our wellbeing, our local environment. By recording all the different ways water benefits our lives, we can value water properly and safeguard it effectively for everyone. World Water Day is an annual United Nations observance day every year on 22 March that highlights the importance of fresh water. The day is used to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Valuing water is the 2021 water day theme. My thanks to everyone who heard my Presentation THANK YOU
