N’Golo Kante, or NG as Tuchel likes to call him, has become a class defensive midfielder and arguably one of the best players in that position. Today, we’ll be looking at his career as a football player from start to the present and how he has developed over the years. Kante worked as a scavenger, who would collect garbage and waste, and sell to a recycling company as a child. He was born in 1991, and until 1998, he was a poor little boy who helped his mother and himself to survive in Paris, even as a little boy. He started his youth career in the year 1999, at the age of 8. He started playing for JS Suresnes and continued his stay there for more than a decade until 2010. He was often taken away from the radar because of his small stature and his body, by the bigger teams. In 2010, he joined the reserve team of Boulogne! His senior debut of club career came in the year 2012, when he appeared in a game for Boulogne against Monaco in Ligue 2. However, his team lost 1-2 that day. He replaced Virgile Reset for the final 11 minutes of his debut. He played all the 38 games representing Caen in Ligue 2 and finished up third in the league and finally making into the Ligue 1 in which he was instrumental. Thereafter, he moved to recently promoted Leicester City, who had survived in the premier league for only one season. Along with Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez, NG was one of the most important players in Leicester’s amazing feat of Premier League win in the 2015-16 season under Ranieri. He was named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2015. He topped the tackles table with a whopping 175 tackles at the end of the season 2015-2016 in the Premier League. He was named by L'Équipe as the world's 6th best footballer in 2016. Right after that season, Kante once again won the title of the Premier League at Chelsea, under Antonio Conte. Winning back to back premier league title is one of the greatest feat that Kante has ever achieved. He won the PFA Players' Player of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year to become the first outfield player to win back to back English League titles playing for different teams in 2017 since Eric Cantona. He was named by L'Équipe as the world's 6th best footballer in 2016. He was nominated for the Ballon d'Or in 2017. Later, he won the FA cup in his second season at the club, and the Europa League in the third. On 17 May 2018, he was called up to the 23-man French squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by manager Didier Deschamps. He featured in all 7 matches for France in the tournament. He was awarded man-of-the-match in a 0–0 draw against Denmark in the final match of the group stage on 26 June, and on 15 July, Kanté started in France's 4–2 win over Croatia in the final of the tournament. Everyone had written off NG since his injury ridden season in 2019-20. However, he has gotten a second wind in his career with amazing performances under Thomas Tuchel, securing a FA cup final and a Champions League final. He was monumental in Chelsea’s win over Real Madrid in the semi final, where he showed the likes of Casemiro his true level, as most people used to say Casemiro is better. Casemiro sure is great, but NG is a different class. We’ll see how he performs against Manchester City in the Champions League final next week.
