Welcome to Rockwell Security, installation instruction for the San Jose handle set. Please always wear protective eyewear. To install your new handle set, a Phillips 2 screwdriver will be necessary. Masking tape, a ruler, a pencil, and a driller with a 1/8-inch drill bit can be useful. On the exploded view, you can see all the internal components on the left of the screen and all the external components on the right of the screen. Please make sure that your door panel is 1-3/4 to 2 inches thick. If your door thickness is not within this range, please, contact Rockwell Security. Identify the handing of your door, according to the representation on the screen. If your door is a LHI or LHO, you may install the handle set as it was shipped to you. Handle set are always preset for Left hand door. If your door is a RHI or RHO, the Spindle cartridge will need to be replaced. The door in this video is a RHO. To change the spindle cartridge on the external pull assembly, we recommend laying down the pull assembly on a proper support, with the pull facing the floor, to ease the installation of the spindle cartridge. Remove and save the screws holding the Left-Hand spindle cartridge. Carefully, remove and discard the Left-hand spindle cartridge. Engage the thumb-piece tail into the cavity on the back of the new Right-hand cartridge and secure the cartridge with the 2 screws. Do not overtighten the screws. Test the proper operation and observe the rotation of the square hub in the center of the cartridge while you depress the thumbpiece. Insert the spindle as shown. The spring need to be in contact with the cartridge. Now you can prepare the lock. Inserting the Phillips screwdriver into the cross slot, extend out the dead bolts of your multi point lock. Present your external pull. The cylinder tail piece needs to be vertical. As represented on the video, it will help to engage the cylinder tail piece if the handle set is at an angle. You might have to rotate the pull slightly in all directions to engage the spindle into the lock. If the spindle cannot be held into the cartridge, you can insert it into the lock instead. Just make sure that the spring will eventually contact the cartridge. Hold the external pull against the door and install the cylinder mounting plate. The 2 screws will need to go trough the cylinder mounting plate, the door, and the lock. Do not overtighten the screws. Install the internal mounting plate. Use the 2 screws to secure it to the external pull. Do not overtighten the screws. Present the internal assembly with thumb-turn. The thumb-urn need to be horizontal during installation. Test the operation. The deadbolts should retract and extend easily. The lever is delivered with a plastic washer. Make sure that the plastic washer is properly installed on the shank of the lever before Installing the lever onto the door. Press the lever against the internal plate and tighten the set screw. Finalize the installation by installing the wood screws on the internal and external assembly. We recommend drilling diameter 1/8-inch pilot holes, very carefully, through the mounting holes. Use masking tape to prevent scratching your handle set. Install the wood screws. Do not overtighten. Test the operation of the handle set from the interior and exterior side.
