There is a certain mindset that must accompany you as a spiritual practitioner as you proceed along your spiritual journey. Without this appropriate mindset, you will find spiritual practice to be tedious, repetitious and meaningless. How must you be and continue to think as a spiritual practitioner? You will neither know every thing, not understand every thing - at least, not every time. Be comfortable with not knowing. Make the effort to be always on the lookout for more spiritual knowledge from a variety of sources, both human and non-human. Be ready to live and practice a solitary lifestyle, especially if you do not have family and friends who are interested in spiritual practice. A solitary lifestyle does not means that you have to live by yourself, however, you will most likely do your spiritual work by yourself. You will come to learn that your prayers and rituals have to be frequently done in private, and out of the public eye. This is not because you are doing anything wrong, but because you can get unfairly or negatively criticized by those who have no knowledge or understanding of what you are doing. When people around you are uncomfortable with your spiritual practice, they may accuse you of engaging in "occult", "devilish", "demonic", "fetish" or "satanic" activities and beliefs. Understand and know that in your practice, you do not work alone. You work at all times with your "spiritual crew", i.e. your Creator, Guardian Spirit or Guardian Angel, ancestors and spirit guides. Whomever or whatever you believe in is part of this crew. Keep experimenting and practicing the best way to communicate with them. Never approach any of them with fear or double-mindedness. Also be mindful that each spiritual being has its own defined function, and that you will fail to get the results you want if you ask the entity incorrectly to help you with what it was not assigned to do. If in doubt, do your research and/or ask for guidance from them. You must be resolute in dealing with all your own negative core beliefs about yourself and your ability to work as a spiritual practitioner. This is because people will definitely say things to trigger these negative beliefs you have about yourself. You will also make mistakes or initially fail to achieve success with some of your work and prayers, which in turn may trigger your negative core beliefs. Approach your practice with an open and curious mind, just like a child. Be sure to note what works for you, and what doesn't. Another important thing is that you must develop the unshakeable personal belief that you will get what you want, sooner or later. Believe in your own power to manifest your prayers and petitions to the spirit world. Believe that you are being heard by your spiritual companions and helpers. Do what you have to do to bolster your own self confidence about your practice. Be sure to set clear intentions for what you expect to achieve from your spiritual practice. Remember that if you don't expect much, you will not get much! Another important note is that you must understand the difference between what you can do for yourself, and what you need to ask your spiritual crew to help you with. To win the lottery, you must get a lottery ticket! For instance, it is foolhardy to ask others to speak to your spiritual crew on your behalf, to believe that religious leaders have better spiritual access to your spiritual crew, or to pray, then sit back and take no other action on your own behalf. It is okay to ask your spiritual crew to help you understand something, bless you with wisdom, support you with healing, reinforce your protective activities, or show you the right way to go. Use these initial steps to guide your mindset as a spiritual practitioner. As you go along, there will be more ideas and activities you will create to support yourself and your work.
