Sound pollution is one of the most annoying problems of our time. And it seems it will only get worse with the continuation of industrialization and the increase in population. 29 percent of the Flemish population is troubled by sound pollution. There are only 10 silent areas left in Flanders. Our group is of the opinion that it is more important to inform and educate the human population than it is to directly tackle the problems. We think there needs to be a shift in mindset of the planet’s inhabitants if we want to get to a better world. Our project is focussed on the two SDGs Good health and well-being. and responsible consumption and production. Our device measures the sound level and the GPS coordinates after predetermined time intervals. It also records the time at which these were taken. That data gets send to the firebase databank. Where it gets ordered according to a grid system that has been applied to a map of Belgium. This makes it so the app does not have to pull all the data and just gets the necessary information. If you open the app, you see a home screen with a map, an input box, a slider and two buttons. To use the app, you type in a location and adjust the slider to a threshold value of your own choosing. Press the o k button to pan and zoom to the location. If the user then presses the scan button the recorded datapoints will be shown as markers on the map. The green markers are the places where the recorded data does not exceed the determined threshold, the red markers are the places where it did. thanks for watching.
